Robert Childs

EVP – CHIEF DE&I OFFICER		 Robert serves as Chief DE&I Officer of American Express. In this role, Robert oversees both our internal and external DE& I efforts. His focus is to drive a DE&I mindset & behaviors deeper in how the company operates across six pillars - Brand, Culture, Colleague, Customer, Business & Community. After early progress in meeting a public $1 billion commitment toward its DE&I Action Plan, the company has established a new goal to invest an additional $3 billion toward DE&I initiatives globally through 2025. This will bring its total projected commitment to $4 billion. He is focused on ensuring an inclusive mindset & actions are applied in backing AXP Customers, Colleagues and Communities. Robert has been with American Express for 35+ years in a variety of roles creating value for Customers and Colleagues.

Robert previously served as Executive Vice President of the Colleague Services & Capabilities (CSC) group for 9 years. CSC is part of the Colleague Experience Group, CEG (formerly Human Resources) at American Express. CSC is focused on delivering global colleague services in the areas of recruitment operations, mergers & acquisitions, service delivery and payroll operations to improve the user experience and drive greater efficiency through end-to-end process design. The team manages data which delivers insights to power decisions concerning workforce patterns & behavior, potential acquisitions/divestitures and organizational changes that are intended to help AXP grow. Additionally, Robert led two CEG Strategic Portfolios: Technology and Global Services Group. In this remit, he was responsible for day-to-day change management, organizational & talent leadership. These business units made up a significant portion of the American Express workforce. In addition to these responsibilities, Robert also served as the interim Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) from January 2019 to April 2019.

Prior to this role, Robert served as the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) for AXP, where he was responsible for developing and executing company-wide trainings and development strategies to improve the employee experience, deliver operating efficiencies and enable higher productivity. Before assuming the CLO role, Robert served as a HR Business Partner for approximately 15 years, where he crafted and executed the global transformation of various business units. His efforts led to an enhanced operating configurat ion, better operating margins, greater productivity and higher customer satisfaction.

During his 35+ years with American Express, Robert has collaborated with business leaders to develop and implement solutions to improve customer servicing standards, increase customer loyalty and increase market share through the acquisition of new clients. From acquisitions and divestitures of companies to the development of talent acquisition, retention and engagement programs, Robert’s contributions to long-term growth are felt and valued throughout the company. Throughout his professional career Robert has been instrumental in shaping cultures, building capabilities; he is results oriented and believes that experiences matter. Robert received a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Management from Cook College, Rutgers University. He is committed to education and serves on the Advisory Board of the nonprofit organization Determined to Educate. Formerly, Robert advised the Eagle Foundation to improve New York City public schools.

Robert is a member of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC), an organization committed to advancing the role and contributions of black executives and preparing the next generation of corporate leaders through a series of programs, events and philanthropic endeavors. Robert is a consummate sports fan and lives by the motto “Never let a day go by, without taking the opportunity to learn something new.

Curtis L. Wilson

VP & General Manager, National Client Group for Global Merchant & Network Services 		Curtis L. Wilson is Vice President & General Manager of the National Client Group for Global Merchant & Network Services American Express, United States.

Mr. Wilson leads a $260 Billion+ business unit with fifty-five colleagues responsible for various business activities pertaining to marketing, co-branding, driving discount business volume, delivering top line revenue growth, and delivering value-content using data and analytics to American Express merchants and cardmembers.

Mr. Wilson has held several progressive positions of responsibility within the American Express Company; headquartered in New York, N.Y. since joining the firm as a territory manager in the Washington, D.C. region in 1990. A two-time American Express President’s Award winner in 1991 and 1997 which is given for innovation, leadership and overall business performance. He also is a member of the company’s hall of fame, inducted in 2013. Prior to joining American Express, he worked for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Curtis holds an BA-Marketing degree from The Ohio State University and an MBA in Finance from Morgan State University.

Curtis resides in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife Deborah. They have a son and a daughter.



David D. Singleton  

VP, Account Development – Global Commercial Services 		David D. Singleton is a seasoned sales professional with more than 20 plus years of experience in new business sales and management. David works as a VP of Account Development (Small-Medium Enterprise–Northeast Region) in the Global Commercial Services for American Express. He has been in the position since June 2022 and has achieved many accomplishments during this time. David spent 4.5 years as the Director of Business Development in Michigan.

David was selected for the “Growth Co Hot House” pilot program, was in the top 25 of rookie business development managers his first year, serves as a district mentor for new MBD’s, and has consistently exceeded his target goals.

David is a native of Newark, NJ and received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Caldwell College in Caldwell, NJ. He has been a long-time volunteer with his high school alma mater, St. Patrick’s High School (now The Patrick School) where he is a member of the Board of Trustees and is an avid supporter of the school’s basketball team.

David lives in Kenilworth, NJ with his wife Jemia and their son, Devin



Marvalee Bascus

VP, US Consumer Customer Marketing – Lifecycle & Loyalty 		Marvalee Bascus is currently the Vice President of Customer Marketing Lifecycle & Loyalty at American Express in the US Consumer organization. In this role, Marvalee is responsible for driving share, deepening card member engagement, and enhancing customer satisfaction across all core US Consumer Card products.

Prior to this, Marvalee served as US Consumer’s chief of staff managing priority initiatives, organizational planning, operational processes, and strategic communications. Marvalee has held various performance marketing roles across prospect acquisition, customer revenue growth, cobrand partnerships loyalty marketing and go to market strategy in the B2B space in service of Corporate and Small Business customers.

Marvalee currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, son and daughter. Marvalee holds both a B.S. and M.B.A in Marketing from the University of Maryland, College Park and Baruch College, respectively.



Greg Holman

VP & GM of Specialty for the U.S. SME 		Greg Holman is a 23-year veteran of the Financial Services Industry. He has developed a Win-as-A-team approach to leading world class organizations, while championing distribution and change initiatives across the globe. He has served in various executive and Senior level leadership roles as General Manager, Head of Distribution, and SVP, Business Operation Transformation Executive. He has been at the forefront of distribution strategy and operational expansion for Industry leaders Bank of America, & MetLife with responsibility for portfolios of $1B plus, and organizational spans in the U.S., Canada, Central America, and Asia.

In his current role, Greg serves as the Vice President & GM of Specialty for the U.S. SME organization within Global Commercial Services. Prior to this role he served as the interim Vice President for the National Field Teams in U.S. SME leading AP Automation and the Top Client Expansion Teams. Holman joined the organization in the summer of 2020 as the Regional Vice President for the NY Region with a focus as VP champion for Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS).

    1. No. All of the recruitment related events hosted by HBCU CONNECT have associated sponsors. These sponsors put up funds to handle paying for the venue, food and drinks for attendees.
    2. Attendees are expected to register such that we can make sure you are a fit for the career opportunities available, and to put forth the commitment to join us on the specified date.
  2. How do I get the location details for the event?
