Tangi Miller

Tangi Miller
Posted By: Robert Walker on November 06, 2016

Tangi Miller is a storm brewing in the film industry. A storm that no matter how much the weathermen predict and warn you about it, you will still end up in the eye of it.

But this will be a storm you won't want to run and take cover from because her gifts as an actress, a writer, producer, and now director, are ones that will move you emotionally, and make you laugh, cry, and ponder the wondrous journey of life.

Born and raised in Miami, FL. and the eldest of six children, Tangi and her siblings were not permitted to watch much television as they grew up. This only fueled her interests in the performance arts, and she began acting in stage productions while attending high school.

Still not quite thinking she would pursue a career in acting, she pursued a marketing degree at Alabama State University. However; It was at Alabama State University that she decided to pursue acting full-time. Ever, the consummate scholar, She would go on to win the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship and earn a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Irvine. Tangi also studied at the Royal National Theater in London and performed in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

The City of Montgomery would later give her the key to the City and ASU would site Tangi as being one of their shining star graduates:

"Tangi Miller has been called one of the sexiest stars on television. Ebony Magazine said the former ASU public relations major–turned–movie star is one of the "most beautiful people of the millennium. She got her start at Good Ole ’Bama State, where she realized that acting was her true calling."

Most television viewers know Ms. Miller from the Emmy award winning show, Felicity, where she played Elena Tyler, opposite Kerri Russell on the Hit WB series from1998 to 2002.

Some would be surprised to learn that Tangi has music videos to her credit; featured actress in soulful music video starring legends, Sweet Pea Atkins and Kris Kristofferson, "Forever's a Long, Long Time" and in Old Dirty Bastard's hit, "Baby I Got Your Money".

Tangi fearlessly took her career into her own hands and started her own production company, Olivia Entertainment, where she acts and produces.

Many Indie movie lovers will remember Tangi as the lead actress in such independent films: The Other Brother (romantic comedy); horror film, Leprechaun: Back 2 the Hood, Drones(sci-fi), The Good Life(comedy), Good Wifey(dramedy), Hollywood Choas(faith), The MC Hammer Story and Hurricane in a Rose Garden(comedy), and My Girlfriend's Back(dramedy).

In 2005, Tangi was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a television movie category at the N.A.A.C.P. Image Awards, and in 2006, she would play Donna in Tyler Perry's Madea's Family Reunion.

A pioneer, even in the independent film arena, Miller has carved out an impressive career overseas starring and co-producing Ghanaian and Nigerian films; she has worked on over a dozen films including Police Officer, After School; The Trace, Boxing Day and Love & Other 4 Letter Words, her favorite to date.

In the romantic dramedy; Tangi plays, Stormy LaRue, in a story about a successful woman who plans an elaborate wedding with friends and family, but with no husband.

The movie features comedian/actor, Flex Alexander, and is about a woman (Stormy LaRue) who lies to her grandmother about her engagement and wedding because her grandmother was dying. "Stormy wanted her grandma to know that her grandbaby was getting married", Tangi says with a smile. "She knew that being a happily married woman would have been more important to her grandma than being a successful business woman, or at least as important. To know that her granddaughter was going to be happy, fulfilled, and with a family would have given grandma peace as she passed on to rest. A profound notion to mothers of her generation for their daughters"

But, when the grandmother does not pass away, and begins to recover, that's when the antics are on to find a husband, and the dramedy ensues.

Tangi would tell an interviewer for Essence Magazine when asked about her own love life,

"I want to begin a conversation about relationships and love. Stormy's grandmother in the movie says, 'at the end of your days you’re not going to wish you worked extra hours at work'. If you love is something you want, you definitely need to make it a priority in your life early enough so it doesn’t feel desperate or you are worried about your eggs drying up (laughs)!".

Tangi learned early in her career that one of the ways you can always keep yourself working is to "create your on work". Producing her own films, has allowed Tangi to be able to bring the kind of stories she and her friends would like to see at the movies.

The one area behind the camera she had not worked, is as director. That is, until now. She is very excited now that she is in post-production for her directorial debut, Diva Diaries.

Tangi also serves as Producer of Diva Diaries, a trilogy, story by Ms Miller and writing team Alisa Banks, Huriyah Muhammad and Jarale Phillips.

"Diva Diaries is about five beautiful women working, living and loving...in all of their fabulousness and of course, some drama. But not the hair pulling, drink throwing drama we see on TV today. The good 'old fashion' plot twists and tension . Diva Diaries is about five 'Bougie Babes'", Tangi says with a big laugh,

Well, one thing seems certain for Tangi Miller as she continues to grow as an actress and filmmaker, she is a true DIVA ~ Divinely Inspired, Victoriously Awesome, Alive, and Aware. She appears to have the Midas touch when it comes to putting her finger on what everyone is talking about.

We look forward to Diva Diaries, and up coming international films Boxing Day and Twin Flames.
