Jalisa Rivera, Miss St. Philip's College

Posted By: Hija Chang on January 13, 2017

Hometown: San Antonio, Texas

Year in School: Freshman

Major/Minor: Business Administration

Expected Graduation: 2018

Extracurricular Activities: Spirit and Pride Crew Muslim Student Association

Leisure Activities: I love to write. Writing has always been a passion for me and it is something I will continue to do because it is what makes me feel great.

Career Goals: My career goal is to become a vintner. A vintner is someone who grows grapes to make wine. Wine has always been my passion.

What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?: I was bullied in middle school for my weight. I lost confidence and self esteem. It is hard to think positive sometimes because of that situation. I was certain I couldn't become Queen because I thought it was all about looks. It is more about the way we feel. If it feels great to you, then do it.

I competed for Queen!! The great part about it is that tons of people were willing to help me. Not just one or two people, but lot’s of people. I always felt like I was alone and nobody really cared about me because that is the kind of mentality I had from being bullied. In the end, it has helped me come out of my bubble. Because people helped me, I can now prove to girls like me that they can choose to become Queen and looks will not ever matter like I thought they did. With that realization, I have opened my eyes to girls at our school who may have once been in the situation I was in. Now, they are going to run next year. I am so very proud to have encouraged others. That is my goal.
