Courtney Buckhanon, Miss Oakwood University

Posted By: How May I Help You NC on January 18, 2017

Hometown: Franklin

Year in School: Senior

Major/Minor: Communications-PR/Biology

Expected Graduation: 2016

Extracurricular Activities: Aeolians (Oakwood University Aeolians is a touring choir that has graced the stage with greats like Richard Smallwood, Anthony Brown and Kathleen Battle), Mentoring, Community service activities, Alpha Chi honor society This year I've focused my extra time into my reign, so my extracurricular activities are limited.

Leisure Activities: Spending time with family Spending time with friends Shopping Doing memorable things Doing adrenalin booster activities - skydiving, camping, roller coasters Singing

Career Goals: I hope to release a book this upcoming year before going to grad school. I will study strategic communications and finance to gain a dual concentration masters. I hope to finish soon after with a PhD in Leadership. I will start a non-profit committed to the purpose of mentorship and positive development of teenage girls.

Ultimately I hope to live my life constantly serving the needs of others.

What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?: As campus queen I've worked to engage the student body more. To change the perception of the position as a figurehead to an active servant leader. As queen my platform and reign are centered around empowering women to live up to their full potential and grasp all God has in store for them. The most memorable moment would be my program the W.H.O.L.E Experience. W.H.O.L.E summarizes three of my greatest loves; God, servant hood and elegance. The acronym W.H.O.L.E is representative of a woman who is worthy of praise, heaven-bound, opportunistic, a servant-leader, and elegant. The feedback from the program and initiative has been tremendous. The ladies on my campus left feeling as though they could conquer the world.
