Posted By: How May I Help You NC on January 19, 2017 Hometown: Riverside, CA Year in School: Senior Major/Minor: Broadcast Journalism Expected Graduation: 2017 Extracurricular Activities: Langston University has granted me the opportunity to be involved in many of the intellectual and productive aspects of my campus. After being a cheerleader my freshman year and competing in two on campus pageants, I was pinned as a Langston University ambassador, leading assistance in a variety of campus programming. I have been granted the opportunity to serve on the Student Activities Board and Student Government Association where I am able to selflessly lead in serving the students as well as create experiences for them during their time at dear Langston. As a Spring 2016 initiate into the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, I have committed myself to uphold our values of sisterhood, scholarship and service in my walk with Christ and everyday life. Outside of organizations, I stay working in my major building, Sanford Hall, shooting and editing video projects or cooking up a story for the LU Gazette. Leisure Activities: In my spare time, I enjoy dancing with the Dolls Dance Company, drawing and writing! Anything that involves getting my creative juices flowing is a pleasure of mine. Programming with my on campus organizations, working on a crafty project or conducting service opportunities are all a part of my daily activities. I am a health nut as well, so I stay in the gym and practice yoga on a consistent basis. Maintaining a healthy and aligned state of mind, body and spirit is how I guide my lifestyle. Every now and then I'll reward myself with a big scoop of ice-cream with Nutella and binge watch Being Mary Jane or a new series on Netflix! Career Goals: Upon graduating Langston University, I plan on continuing my work in TV production and with inner city youth. What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?: One out of many memorable moments that I had as a campus queen was when I would tell high school students the story about how I arrived to Langston. My story is a unique one, one that showcased fortitude in adversity. We all come from realities that are so different yet so similar in nature. Our stories are what build the foundation of the Langston community and make our family atmosphere so worth it. After speaking during high school day for the Spring semester, I came back in that Fall greeted by a crowd of eager freshman, ready to take on the world. I sat by one student on the way to a Lion Camp event and we chatted the entire ride. I asked him "What made you want to come to Langston?"¯ Expecting a cliche answer, he surprisingly replied "You did." He said he was there during high school day that Spring, and my story touched him. The power in my words and the weight of my crown hit me at that moment. Through that, I spoke my words with more passion and substance than I ever did before, because I knew I had a responsibility, to empower, influence and inspire.
