Astra Watts, Miss Grambling State University

FEATURED Content

Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana

Year in School: Senior

Major/Minor: Biology/Pre-Med

Expected Graduation: 2017

Extracurricular Activities: Throughout her time at Grambling State University, Astra has been involved in a host of extra curricular activities. She served her campus community as Miss Sophomore 2014-2015, Junior Class President 2015-2016, a GSU Student Ambassador, Tiger Doll Recruiter for GSU football, an active member of the Society of Distinguished Black Women, Incorporated and an Audacious soror of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Leisure Activities: In her leisure time, Astra enjoys being a beauty blogger on YouTube where she films and edits her own makeup tutorials. She also enjoys being a makeup artist in her spare time. Because Grambling is her home away from home, she cherishes each opportunity given to spend time with her family and friends in New Orleans, La.

Career Goals: With aspirations to become an Anesthesiologist, Astra has interned at the historic Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She has also volunteered in the pediatric and anesthesia departments at Tulane Hospital of New Orleans, La. Her desire to assist those in need stems from her adolescence. Following graduation, she plans to pursue her Masters degree in Public Health.

What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?: My most memorable contribution as a campus queen was being able to host the "$250 Welcome Week Book Scholarship" to a member of the 2020 Freshman Class. This is definitely my most memorable contribution because being able to impact someone's life so powerfully is not to be taken lightly, and I will always cherish that moment forever. Since a little girl, I've always valued each opportunity to give back to community in any way possible. Being able to make this contribution in such a huge capacity means the world to me.
