Miss Fort Valley State University 2005-2006

Miss Fort Valley State University 2005-2006
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 24, 2006

Like most little girls, Dianah Marable dreamed of winning beauty pageants. As a preteen she won the title of Miss Zeta twice and placed as the second runner-up for Miss Brooks County High in her hometown of Dixie, Ga.

In the spring of 2005, Marable entered a whole new ball game when she won the title of Miss Fort Valley State University. The 20-year-old animal science major said it was a dream that finally became a reality. “I knew I always wanted to be Miss FVSU.” Marable said. “When I won the title I was speechless.”

Marable is the second family member to take home the title. As the youngest of five brothers and sisters, Dianah watched her older sister Tu-Wanda reign as Miss FVSU in 1997-1998. “I always thought about actually doing it, but she really inspired me to go through with it,” Marable said.

Her inspiration also comes from her aunt Rhonda Marable, who was a runner-up for Miss FVSU in the ’80s and her cousin Dawnyetta Marable, who served as Miss FVSU’s first attendant in 2000-2001.

Marable was selected in the spring of 2005. She will officially begin her duties in the fall. As Miss FVSU she will represent Miss FVSU “with pride and dignity” at football games and other competitions, work with the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation and serve in other capacities as a university spokesperson.

While Marable was honored at being chosen as the newest Miss FVSU, winning the title was far from her only noteworthy accomplishment during this past academic year.

Marable’s academic achievements were also recognized in 2004-2005, as she earned a spot on the FVSU Dean’s List and took home the State Teacher of the Year Award at the Honors Convocation in March.

Her recognition as the State Teacher of the Year was her second. Last year Marable earned the same honor, which is given to those students whose leadership, intelligence and vision exemplify the work of William Hubbard, founder of the State Teachers and Agricultural College of Forsyth, a forerunner of FVSU.

Marable, a senior who maintains a 3.5 overall grade point average, said she has immediate and extended family members to thank for her commitment to academic excellence and her ambitious drive.

Her sister Tu-Wanda Marable is a dentist in New York, while her brother Ulysses Marable will graduate from the Medical College of Georgia in May with a dental degree. Dr. Lawrence Marable, a 1981 FVSU graduate and a Macon dentist, is her uncle. Marable’s father, Ulysses Marable Jr., is a Lowndes County teacher ,while her mother, Mary H. Henley, is an elementary teacher in Jonesboro. Marable will complete her degree in animal science this year. She hopes to enter medical school and become a pediatrician – a goal she said she is looks forward to accomplishing.

“I’ve always had a love for children, particularly the ones that are less fortunate,” Marable said. “I want to be able to strengthen a child, so that one day [he or she] can return the gift to someone else.” If her accomplishments this year indicate her talent and drive, Marable’s future career choice is another goal she’ll reach.
