HBCU Meharry Medical College Gifts Students $10,000 ahead of Thanksgiving with No Strings Attached!

Posted By: Will Moss on November 23, 2021 Meharry Medical College announced Monday that it will give its 956 students $10,000 each to help alleviate any financial strain from the coronavirus pandemic. Dr. James Hildreth, president and CEO of Meharry Medical College, sent an internal announcement with an attached video to the students on Monday. In the video, Hildreth gave his thanks to all who work at the college but said he was most thankful to the students. “But mostly, I’m thankful for you students and the future of health care, public health and research that is entrusted to you,” Hildreth said. The money for the gifts comes from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds as part of the CARES Act. Hildreth said the best way to begin distributing those funds would be to gift them to the students “who will soon give so much to our world.” Students are free to use the money as they choose, but Hildreth encouraged the students to use the funds for their education and training rather than Black Friday shopping.
