HBCU Graduates along with the Livingstone College Band Director Perform a Jazz Concert in Paris

Posted By: S. Moore on July 17, 2023 SALISBURY, N.C. — A band director from Rowan County got to play jazz music in the City of Lights. The 369th Experience Band is made up of Historically Black College and University graduates and was led by Livingstone College’s current band director, Anthony Jones. Jones told Channel 9 that he and the band performed jazz songs that were originally played in Paris during World War I. The concert, which was performed earlier in the month, honored the U.S. soldiers who brought the music to Paris in the first place. “It was a group from New York; they brought jazz to Paris over 100 years ago,” Jones said. “So in remembrance, we’re creating the 369th Experience.” The band played with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, where they performed a tribute to Josephine Baker.
