Wilberforce University professor to lecture at the next Bayard Rustin Lecture Series, sponsored by Dominion Energy

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 28, 2023 What we know about Wilberforce alum, Bayard Rustin is that he was a fighter for social justice. Most famously known as the chief architect of the seminal 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, Rustin was a background labor influencer, a community organizer, and a progressive for the working class. Dr. Godfrey Vincent, Wilberforce University associate professor of history and director of the WU honors program, will lecture on Rustin's 20th century influence on labor organizing and why and how that impact needs to be fully resurrected in the 21st century. Dr. Vincent will speak Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 11 am for The Blueprint for Modern Labor Activism, part of which will include his new book, "Rebels at the Gates". "The mid 1970s experienced what became a consistent decline in the labor movement," Dr. Vincent said. "However, this younger generation is not accepting the wages and/or benefits of their parents. Thursday's discussion will reveal the lessons that are needed to revive that campaign." Dr. Vincent received his doctorate from Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD. He also holds an MA in political science/historical studies from New School University, in NY, and a BA in government and politics from St. John's University, Queens, NY.
