Influencer Brandon Jinx Creates Nike’s First-ever Morehouse College Shoe
|
Posted By: S. Moore on December 12, 2023 A Morehouse College graduate is honoring the school with its own Nike shoe! Influencer Brandon ‘Jinx’ Jenkins recently announced that the Morehouse sneaker he worked to design as part of a collaboration with Nike is available for purchase. The Nike Terminator High features the college’s signature colors and the Maroon Tiger mascot. After being contacted by the athletic clothing company, he decided that he would be commemorating Dr. Hudson with the shoe. During his tenure at Morehouse, Dr. Hudson served as his lecturer for Marketing & Advertising. “In my first years at school, I was a struggling engineering major,” Jinx wrote on Instagram. “NOTHING was going right, my grades were in the basement, and my confidence wasn’t far behind. I was young, and I didn’t really know that you could do what you wanted to do. Or how to. I eventually switched majors in my junior year, and I found Dr. Hudson. In her class, everything started to improve. My grades were climbing, I was participating like crazy, and I felt inspired. And now I was having fun at college, because the school part of it was going better.” He added, “But the whole way Dr. Hudson and I remained tight. We would trade articles to read. Put each other on to stuff. She’d follow my career. We talked about her classes. She and her husband Ben came to visit me at work. And we would always tell each other how thankful we were to have connected and how much we helped each other. But if I’m keeping it tall, it wasn’t even close. She changed my life. So as much as this shoe is for Morehouse—past, present and future—it is first and foremost a tribute to my favorite professor and a great friend, Dr. Elania J Hudson (1963 – 2019).” It is the first-ever sneaker for Morehouse College and a spin on the classic Nike design. Jenkins wanted to make sure that he created something that could be worn daily by students at Morehouse and alumni of all generations. A homage to HBCUs and the nostalgia of college, it was the influencer’s first Nike product, but he’s hoping it’s not the last so he can continue giving back to the culture. The Nike Terminator High Morehouse College shoes are now available online now.
