Alabama A&M University graduate Maja Sly aims to empower Black women with home ownership and education
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 09, 2024

Affordable Housing Advocate and Serial Entrepreneur Maja Sly is curating the 3rd Annual Dinner at Dusk Polo Classic Legacy on the Green philanthropy event on Sunday, September 15 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Chukkar Farms, 1140 Liberty Grove Rd, Alpharetta, GA 30004. Maja is a first-generation college graduate and multi-million-dollar small business owner who coined the "Power of One" ideology to illustrate how Black women's lives and legacies can be positively changed by introducing one connection, idea or person. "I established Dinner at Dusk so that Black female students, entrepreneurs and business executive leaders can connect and thrive together," states Maja. "The professional women at the event, including guests and honorees, are changemakers helping to break down the barriers that Black women too often face in education, homeownership, entrepreneurship and employment." The synergistic connections made at the Dinner at Dusk event will also help to reduce the steadily rising racial wealth gap.

During last year’s event, HBCU student Gabriel Chambers was awarded a scholarship to complete her college education. Gabriel credited her affiliation with Maja Sly and the Dinner at Dusk Foundation, Inc., with increasing her financial literacy and giving her access to an elite camaraderie of professional Black women considering her for a $41 per hour internship. This year’s notable honorees are HGTV’s Flipping Virgins and Property Virgins Host Egypt Sherrod, New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor of Cardiology Dr. Karri Turner, Watson Realty Co. Broker Quiana Watson, The Good Men Club Founder and former Black Love Host Jack A.

Daniels, Life Coach and Reinvention Strategist Marshawn Daniels, Atlanta Public School Board At-Large Member Alfred Brooks, Decorative Artist, Design Expert and TV Personality Tobey Renee Sanders, Georgia State Representative Inga Willis, Hair and Beauty Entrepreneur Tahira Joy, Travis Williams and Community Curator Braxton Simpson.
