Posted By: Robert Walker on September 13, 2024 The incomparable Denise Thimes makes her return to Atlanta for a night of celebration in song and memory of two legendary Divas of Jazz & Soul. https://hype.news/next-phaze-media-group-u... This concert is a special return to the city for Ms. Thimes who considers Atlanta her “home away from home” as a Spelman College graduate, an honorary Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority sister, and member of the LINKS Incorporated. She is excited to welcome friends, associates, fans, and new fans at the City Winery in MidTown Atlanta on Wednesday, October 9th at 8:00 PM. Graduating in 1984 from Spelman with a degree in Theater/Communications, Denise’s journey into the Jazz world, like for many artists, has had its twists and turns, but ultimately rewarding beyond her imaginings. A single mom with two children, now 30 and 26, living off a Performance Artist income had its challenges. Losing her mother to Pancreatic Cancer in 1997 forced Denise to really focus harder on her music career, and to also give back where she has been a tireless supporter for cancer awareness and eradication with her charity and foundation work. Thimes has toured with Clark Terry; with David Sanborn; and opened up for Tony Bennett. She has performed at Dizzys' Coca-Cola room at Jazz At Lincoln Center; the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, and she is an artist in Residence at the Winters Jazz Club in Chicago. Her tribute shows and musical attributes have gained her widespread and international recognition, so much so that Queen Elizabeth chose her to perform at a gala hosted for her during the Queen’s visit to the United States in 2009. Another highlight is a delightful story Thimes likes to share with audiences about her time with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, after performing at Aretha’s 72nd Birthday party in 2014. Thimes was prepared to finally step in and record her first solo album with her producer son in 2020 when COVID hit, shutting down the world for a time, and delaying that prospect that she is now ready to pursue once again. “Where authenticity and showmanship intersect, it is there you will find Denise Thimes. She dazzles and excites her audience, who are delighted to be held in the palm of her hand!” —SCOTT STEGMAN; PROPRIETOR, WINTER’S JAZZ CLUB, CHICAGO IL SAVE THE DATE: https://hype.news/next-phaze-media-group-u...
