Greensboro Swarm to Celebrate HBCU Pride with Commemorative Jersey and Festivities

Greensboro Swarm to Celebrate HBCU Pride with Commemorative Jersey and Festivities
Posted By: Will Moss on January 30, 2026

Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, is set to host its annual HBCU Night on January 30th, featuring a commemorative jersey and a lineup of special events to honor the rich legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

The Swarm, which is based in Greensboro, North Carolina, home to several renowned HBCUs including North Carolina A&T State University and Bennett College, is leveraging this event to celebrate the contributions of these institutions and their alumni.

Key Takeaway: The Greensboro Swarm's HBCU Night is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the vital role HBCUs play in the Greensboro community and beyond, while also engaging with the passionate HBCU alumni and supporter base.

The centerpiece of the celebration will be the unveiling of the Swarm's special HBCU Night jersey, which will feature design elements inspired by the rich cultural heritage and academic excellence of these institutions. Fans will have the chance to purchase the limited-edition jerseys, with a portion of the proceeds going towards scholarship funds for HBCU students.

In addition to the jersey reveal, the Swarm has curated an exciting lineup of events and activities to engage the HBCU community.

These include:

  • A pre-game performance by the renowned North Carolina A&T State University Marching Band, known for their electrifying halftime shows.
  • A special recognition ceremony honoring HBCU alumni and community leaders who have made significant contributions to the region.
  • Interactive fan experiences, such as trivia challenges and photo opportunities, celebrating the unique traditions and pride of HBCUs.
"This HBCU Night celebration is a testament to the Greensboro Swarm's commitment to supporting and uplifting the HBCU community," said Swarm President Chris Sgro. "We are thrilled to provide a platform to showcase the immense talent, rich history, and boundless potential of these remarkable institutions."

The Greensboro Swarm's HBCU Night is more than just a one-time event; it reflects the team's ongoing efforts to forge stronger connections with the HBCU community. By creating meaningful partnerships, amplifying HBCU voices, and fostering a sense of pride and belonging, the Swarm is helping to bridge the gap between professional sports and the HBCU experience.

For the HBCU community, this event serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact and unwavering spirit of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. It is a celebration of the achievements, resilience, and the bright futures that these institutions continue to cultivate, both on and off the basketball court.
