Former FAMU Cheerleader Makes HBCU History With Hall of Fame Induction
Posted By: Will Moss on April 02, 2026

A former Florida A&M University (FAMU) cheerleader has made history by becoming the first representative from a Historically Black College or University to be inducted into the Cheerleading Hall of Fame, marking a significant milestone for HBCU athletics and spirit programs nationwide.

Historic Achievement: This marks the first time an HBCU cheerleader has received this prestigious national recognition, breaking new ground for representation in competitive cheerleading's highest honors.

The induction represents a major moment of recognition for FAMU's storied cheerleading program and highlights the excellence that has long been a hallmark of HBCU spirit squads across the nation. Florida A&M University, located in Tallahassee, Florida, is one of the nation's premier HBCUs and a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

The Cheerleading Hall of Fame honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the sport of cheerleading, whether through athletic achievement, innovation, leadership, or advancing the discipline. This historic induction brings overdue recognition to the talent and dedication that HBCU cheerleaders have demonstrated for generations.

FAMU's cheerleading program has long been recognized for its high-energy performances and technical excellence, contributing to the university's vibrant game-day atmosphere at athletic events.

The program works alongside the world-famous FAMU Marching "100" band to create an unmatched spirit experience that has become synonymous with Rattler pride.

This achievement also shines a spotlight on the broader contributions of HBCU athletic programs to American sports culture. While HBCUs have produced countless professional athletes, coaches, and sports administrators, recognition in auxiliary athletic programs like cheerleading has historically been limited at the national level.

The induction serves as inspiration for current and future HBCU cheerleaders, demonstrating that excellence at historically Black institutions receives the recognition it deserves on national stages. It also opens doors for increased visibility and opportunities for HBCU spirit programs competing for national attention and resources.

As HBCU athletics continue to gain increased national recognition and media coverage, achievements like this Hall of Fame induction help ensure that all aspects of the HBCU athletic experience—from players on the field to spirit squads on the sidelines—receive appropriate acknowledgment for their contributions to collegiate sports culture.
