N.C. A&T's Hairston College to Host Annual Health and Human Sciences Week

Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will host its annual Health and Human Sciences (HHS) Week from Tuesday, April 14, through Saturday, April 18. The events will celebrate the significant contributions of health and human sciences disciplines in student engagement, workforce development, research and community engagement. HHS Week will feature a series of interactive sessions, networking opportunities, and hands-on experiences designed to engage students, faculty, and the community, while focusing on advancing health. Events will include a Research Innovation Showcase, a Health Disparities & Equity Symposium and the Hairston College's first Community Health Fair. Key Events Schedule:
Health Disparities & Equity SymposiumOn Tuesday, April 14, the Health Disparities & Equity Symposium will take place in the Deese Ballroom at the Student Center, 1403 John W. Mitchell Drive, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The symposium will highlight community partnerships and groundbreaking research addressing health disparities and the burden of chronic metabolic diseases, including diabetes. It will be hosted by the Center of Excellence for Integrative Health Disparities and Equity Research (CIHDER) and co-sponsored by the North Carolina Diabetes Research Center. Research Innovation ShowcaseLater that day, undergraduate and graduate students from the Hairston College will present their research at the Research Innovation Showcase, which will be in the Deese Ballroom from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be a Research Innovation Student Poster Competition, which will spotlight faculty-mentored student research projects, with participants competing for awards. Student Organizations ShowcaseOn Friday, April 17, the Student Organizations Showcase will be hosted in Student Center Room 385 from 4 to 6 p.m. This event is meant to celebrate and inspire Hairston College students by highlighting the meaningful contributions of student organizations and leaders. Participating groups will present their community service initiatives and advocacy efforts aimed at improving health, wellness, and quality of life locally, regionally and globally. Community Health FairThe week will conclude Saturday, April 18, with the Community Health Fair at the Alumni-Foundation Event Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event will bring together N.C. A&T units, regional healthcare providers, public health agencies, community-based organizations, faith partners and academic programs to offer free health screenings, educational resources, and connections to services that address social drivers and barriers to health. The fair also will include a prostate cancer community rally, presented by Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN) as part of its Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Strong initiative, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will offer free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) prostate cancer screening blood tests by Labcorp, free food and an opportunity to learn about treatment options, clinical trials and early detection from medical experts.
