Angela Gilmore named dean of David A. Clarke Law School at University of the District of Columbia

Posted By: Reginald Claremont on June 25, 2026 The University of the District of Columbia is proud to announce that Angela Gilmore has been appointed as dean of its David A. Clarke School of Law, effective June 29, 2026. Gilmore has served as interim dean since summer 2024, providing steady leadership to the District's only public law school while advancing its mission of access to justice, public service and practice-ready legal education. A nationally recognized expert in legal education and accreditation, Gilmore previously served as senior counsel for Accreditation at the American Bar Association and held multiple academic leadership positions at North Carolina Central University School of Law. As dean, Gilmore will continue to build on UDC Law’s strengths as one of only five HBCU-affiliated public law schools in the country as well as its nationally-recognized commitment to clinical education, public interest law, access to justice and service to historically underserved communities. Her priorities include boosting enrollment and student success; advancing bar passage and employment outcomes; expanding clinical and experiential learning opportunities; supporting faculty and staff excellence; deepening alumni, legal community and District partnerships; and improving the school’s long-term sustainability and impact.
