U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to Join HBCU CONNECT Fall Virtual Career Fair - Oct 21st

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to Join HBCU CONNECT Fall Virtual Career Fair - Oct 21st

FEATURED Content

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it will participate in the HBCU CONNECT Fall Virtual Conference & Career Fair on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 — and the agency is encouraging HBCU students and alumni across the country to join and explore career opportunities with them.

In its announcement, USCIS shared that it is “excited to participate in the HBCU CONNECT Fall Virtual Career Fair in October 2026,” adding that HBCU students and alumni are strongly encouraged to join and explore career opportunities with the agency.

The event runs 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET and is held entirely online, connecting HBCU students, graduates, and professionals with more than 50 hiring companies and organizations from the comfort of home.

Who Is USCIS?

USCIS is the federal agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security responsible for administering the nation’s lawful immigration system. Its workforce is spread across offices, service centers, and field locations nationwide, and it is far broader than most job seekers realize.

Careers at USCIS reach well beyond immigration casework. The agency employs professionals across disciplines including:

  • Adjudications, immigration services, and asylum
  • Information technology, data, and cybersecurity
  • Legal, policy, and regulatory affairs
  • Human resources, training, and talent acquisition
  • Finance, budget, contracting, and acquisition
  • Administration, records management, and customer service

For HBCU students and graduates weighing their options, federal service offers something the private sector often cannot: mission-driven work, structured career ladders, strong benefits, and stability. It is also a path many HBCU alumni have built long, distinguished careers on.

Why This Matters for the HBCU CONNECT Community

Federal agencies do not show up at every career fair. When one commits early — months ahead of the event — it signals genuine intent to recruit from this community. USCIS reaching out to HBCU students and alumni directly is exactly the kind of employer engagement our virtual career fairs are built for.

Our virtual format gives you direct access to recruiters without travel, time off, or expense. Across the day you can connect with hiring teams, learn about open roles and hiring paths, visit employer booth spaces, and put your background in front of organizations that are actively looking.

How to Get Ready Now

Register for the Fall Virtual Career Fair here — then use the weeks between now and October 21st to prepare. The candidates who do best at these events are the ones who get ready before the doors open:

  • Update your HBCU CONNECT profile and resume. Recruiters review candidate materials before and during the fair, and an out-of-date resume is the most common reason strong candidates get overlooked.
  • Learn how federal hiring works. Government applications differ from private-sector ones — federal resumes are typically longer and far more detailed. Time spent understanding the process now pays off in October.
  • Think about where you fit. Review the range of functions above and identify which of your skills line up, whether that is IT, legal, finance, HR, or operations.
  • Block the date. Wednesday, October 21st, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET. The fair runs all day, so you can drop in between classes or around your work schedule.
