It depends on what school you go to, but most schools try to do special things for the incoming freshman. My school (Hampton) had a freshman orientation week. This is where they explained some of the rules and put down some of the myths. A lot of the programs were directed by some of the upperclassmen, so you got some real insight on what the freshman year had in store. They also had a lot of parties and other social activities (games, shut-ins, etc.) so you could to know the people in your frehman class and make friends. Later in the year, there are more parties, step shows, and other things especially for the freshman class.

At North Carolina A&T(Aggie Pride) they have a week for orientation where the incoming freshman get an overview of what is expected of them and what to expect. There are plenty of events for the students to attend (i.e. tours, talent shows, step shows, parties) and the list goes on. Try to be prepared for anything.

At Jackson State University, we have what is called "Welcome Week" for the Freshmen before upperclassmen arrive on campus. The students go through orientation and programs to help with the transition from high school to college. Many student leaders and mentors are there to help. We also have a Judicial Forum that discusses Alcohol/Illegal ****, Illegal Visitation, ****, Hazing, etc. The welcome party is at the end of the week and the next week, a mini Greek Show.

I know last year when we were there we had something to do everyday. There was a open mic night that was HOT, financial workshops, meeting ur upperclassmen mentor, a HUGE party on campus, clubs were jumpin...all kinds of junk.

At Tennessee State University we have whats called "Freshmen Week." That is the week that the University Peer Counselors, Pep Club and other organizations get together to welcome the incoming freshmen to the school. There are pep rallys, parties and plenty of activities to help them learn the history of the school and how it got to its present state today.

At Clark Atlanta University, we had freshman orientation week. During this time we moved into our dorms and met with our assigned peer groups everyday of that week practicing school cheers (cheerleading camp, depending upon your leader)and for the peer group step show my group won! The following week was the CAU experience . . . . . . . . . induction, step shows, games, parties and MTV Jammed us! The clubs in ATL are always poppin'.
