Now that we're up on election time, what do you thing about Black conservatives? Are they the next big thing in Black politics, or do you thing they are misguided? If you consider yourself conservative, do you feel pressured to hide your political beliefs to be accepted? Is there a future for Blacks in the Republican Party?
Just trying to spark some discussion... Holla!
Since blacks are no longer a monolithic culture in terms of values and purpose, like the pre-60s, I identify myself as a black conservative, but I am registered as an independent.
But that begs another question: Why are conservative & republican and liberal & democrat used interchangably?
The interesting dichotomy is that most black people who vote are very conservative in their lifestyles, religion and social values. . .still yet they overwhelmingly vote Democrat.
If WE as a people had any sense, we'd all register independent and truly force the two parties to cater to the needs of our community.
Hotep,
Black republicans a term that I hear frequently across college campus.
However, the question that I would like to be answer is do we switch parties because of the policies or do we switch out of defiance. I myself believe that we must vote on the issues and policies being presented.
Black conservative are those who enjoy the way things used to be or lean toward traditionalism. I myself have no problem with a black conservative if they can effective define the reasoning for such position.
I don’t vote because someone is a Democrat or a Republican I vote on the polices and issue and how they affect the progression of my community.
As a Political Science Major and Preacher I believe I Must bring forth the Policies of The Politician and make them relevant to the principle of the Preacher.
Prince...
Can I Get a Witness.... Say Yeah... Yeah... HMMM Yeah... Ain't God Good
I think the pivitol question to ask these negro conservatives (as I refuse to call the black) is if Black folk have been traditionally the faces at the bottom of the well and the most oppressed group, what tradition are you upholding?
When you look at men like Alan Keyes and JC Watts, their positions are clear and they are happy with black folks being at the bottom of the well as long as the can continue being the boss man for ****...in essence chiefs in the Moteasir tribe
"Shakin it ova here boss"
I don't see why people think that just because you are black you
must be a democrat. I don't think that color and ethnicity determines how you vote, it must be about your morals and beliefs. My parents are Republicans because they are Christians and don't believe in ****, and other issues. Personally, I'm gonna register as an independent because I think that both parties have their flaws and I don't wanna vote for Bush or Kerry. I think that nowadays, people are gonna have to go with the best candidate and I don't look at black republicans as traitors, because truthfully, Republicans can't ignore us any longer, and they need some black politicians on their side to hear what the African American community needs as a whole.

Prove that JC Watts believes black people should be at the bottom of the well! I need a newsclipping, or something.
I've heard many comments and statements from JC Watts, and regardless of his political affiliation, he has always shirked from his role as the "black republican" . . . he feels, just like many black people that affirmative action isn't necessarily a good thing, just a necessary evil (check his voting record).
He left a democratic family because he believed that Democrats take advantage of having the black vote; yet he also believes that Republicans are not reaching out to blacks the way they should.
Those are strong accusations, and I would like to see them backed up.
I'm mad that some people are so closed minded...
aight we have freshman class elections this friday and me and my friends were talkin about who not to vote for and then one of the girls said "Oh don't vote for him cause he's a Black Republican and he's voting for Bush"
why must black people say ignorant things like that? Then we got into a heated discussion about Republicans and Democrats and why blacks shouldn't be republicans...yo, if u a republican and ur a minority, good for you, because we need more minorities workin from the inside for the Republicans, but hell, don't say anything stupid like blacks shouldn't be republicans because Republicans are for the rich and not the blacks...damn it makes me mad to be a freshman sometimes and to know that some of my fellow classmates are so closed minded
Sorry y'all I just had to vent...so if ur a black republican, I got mad respect for u cause u didn't follow tha trend and be a democrat, u actually did ur research...thaz wassup
lol scratch what i said above...i think I may vote kerry...i mean he has shown support for the black race, his wife has supported the save the children fund in africa tremendously with her fortune and other charities for black people....its just im tired of always voting for a white guy and even though he hasnt shown blatant racism...my friend urged me to have hope for the world, even though i still think we are all going to hell in a handbasket
but i definently wouldnt vote for bush just because he has proved over and over again how much he cares about black people, from murdering inoccent black prisoners, from "his no child left behind" plan that is actually harming the to lower financial brackets of the race, to not attending one NAACP convention...the list goes on and on....
its not that i dont like republicans, heck vote for whatever party you want to, but to vote for a party and HENCE SUPPORT ONE PERSON who has shown such disregard for the black race and other minorities as well....i mean I cant comprehend how you could support someone like that....please someone explain to me, cause I see it as the equivalent of voting for the grand master of the ****....i mean if clinton did the same thing, even though im a loyal democrat i would most definently switch to the republican party...but i still see blacks ready to **** over this monkey called bush who doesnt give 2 cents about them
