Is it tru that the AKAs discriminate on darksin women and if you pledge you have to pass a brown paper bag test. I am asking because i am darkskin, and i don't know why,but my desire has always been to pledge to become an AKA.If someone could get back to me asap,i would greatly appreciate it.
What u don't want to do is tell everyone what you want to pledge. We've gone over this countless times and I know some Greek is going to jump down ur throat. But I don't believe it's true at Tuskegee because they are some dark skinned AKA's here.
i have heard that you are not supposed to let anyone know that you want to pledge, but a few girls and i were having a discussion about sororities...not stating that any one of us wanted to pldge but just the differences between them and that comment came up...about the AKA...and just that if you were darkskin the only way you get accepted is if a family member was affiliated with the AKA's but Thank you for your response.

Read what u first posted...u said ur desire is to become an AKA. You should change that.

Im not sure i understand why she should change it, do YOU kno who she is, or what she looks like, or wat school she goes to? she isbasically anonymous right now...
but hun, bak to ur question, that is a stereotype and i have seen big small light and dark skinned AKA's...and even if it were true nobody would come online and admit that....lets do some thinking sweetie....if u truly want to become an AKA one day, i suggest u do real research and keep ur eyes and ears open....do not listen to everything people say

I don't think that skegee was right about that.... Its not so much that anyone knows who she is, but if she is getting into the habit of talking loose online, then she might mistakenly talk about it on the bus with her friends and not notice that an AKA w/o her nalia is sitting close enuff to hear and remember faces.... Its just not good practice to be out with what you want to do like that....
But to answer your question.. NO.. the paper bag thing is not an issue (depending on the campus tho... I don't know about it still going on, but you never know what people do, because if they are smart, they won't tell what happened to them when they were "online").. My cousin, straight outta Nigeria, pledged at a HBCU, and she is very darkskinned...
SO there... good luck w/ your research..
ladyshaw,
Historically there have long been stories of paper-bag tests within several organizations. This no longer continues, in tradition or practice.
I hope this answered your question.
To touch on what everyone else has said...it may have been a thing to do before, but chances are, I doubt if you have what it takes to be in whatever organization you want to be in, they will determine the last call with a lunchbag. And If they do, then it's probably not worth your time in the number one. Also, to throw in, my best friend's cousin is an AKA @ a school in Raleigh and she and three of her sorors are very much darkskinned. And not legacy.

 Any conference I've gone to for my sorority, the vast majority of new and seasoned (older) Sorors in attendance are dark skinned women. This is a stereotype at its worst. 90% of my LSs are dark skinned beauties so no this is not true. Hell if it were then it would've ruled out at least 50% of our members and four of our founders  Don't believe the hype!
