Pledging Two Orgs... Posted on 02-15-2005

...and I mean two Pan Hells.... My suitemate was on the phone talking to somebody about this and threw this question in my direction out there tonight and i thought it was interesting so i'm curious to see how/if this would work out. Say somebody pledged XYZ at one HBCU and transferred to some PWI where ABC was and tried to pledge there and got on. What do you think would happen realistically? Is there some system to avoid that?

Depends on the stage of their process. . . If they get to the Membership Intake process, generally they will be caught by the National Organization because the NPHC shares SSN, to make sure this doesn't happen. There have been some to slip through, but they are usually discovered and believe me, the ridicule is not worth it.

Appreciate it. After I posted it I started to answer my own question and figured the NPHC had to have somekind of measure to deal with that but you never know. On another note i still don't understand why somebody would actually do it. It really does seem like it would backfire on them.

I would think that they would ask the question "have you ever been in another organization?" too on the applications, i dont know makes sense.

If this was a person that was just being pledge happy and figured he/she wanted to know more than ones org's secrets just for the hell of it or was doing it for bragging rights he/she could easily say "NO". Wile E. pretty much answered my question in regards to whether the orgs themselves had some measure against this happening and if it has been done before.

Actually I was told Mr. Newson (Howard's Band Director) is a Que and an Iota. I heard he pledged one, and was honorary in the other. Remember Iota didn't become Pan Hell until recent. Newson was a director here at Morgan from the mid 70's until about 84, and Iota was founded here, so I can see how that is so. I wonder how many slipped into this catergory before they went Pan Hell?
