If prayer can truly change things, then Detroiters should be on their knees today.
With the heartbreaking, **** tragedy of last week’s massacre of a mother and her four children, on top of an already incredible run of bad news for the city, heavenly help seems to be all that is left as a grief-stricken and shell-shocked community struggles for answers.
Ironically, even before the most recent killings, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings and a group of ministers had designated today for prayer vigils at all 13 city police precincts. The “Let’s Lift Up Our City in Prayer” day was called in response to a spike in killings and shootings since Jan. 1, including the Feb. 16 slayings of police Officers Matthew Bowens and Jennifer Fettig.
“The time has come for the citizens of this city to be safe in their homes, on their jobs and while they walk the streets. Join us as we pray for peace and an end to the needless ****,” Bully-Cummings told reporters last week in explaining her call for the prayer vigil.
The details of the killing of Lisa Shelton, 33, and her children defy rational comprehension. Police say that her boyfriend, Roger Thompson, 36, strangled Shelton in their tattered east side home. Then, over a period of hours, according to police, he bound the children and beat them to death with a lead pipe.
**** were Ishana Thompson, 9, the daughter of Shelton and the suspect; Wanee Parker, 12; Wrandell Parker, 14; and William Parker Jr., 16, the children of Shelton and William Parker Sr.
Shelton’s sister, Christina Knott, 13, managed to escape, found help with neighbors and informed police of the slayings Thursday.
Police said Roger Thompson told them he **** the children because he didn’t want them to turn out like him. He said he had argued with Shelton over his inability to financially support the family.
I went to view the bodies today and man i almost fainted, those kids didnt look nothing like they way they used to look. You could still see they cuts and scars on there foreheads and there heads and arms. The little 9 year old gurl was so cute. Itz a shame he did that to them! He should be throw into satans mouth!
