In Rod We Trust

I have to move from the city I currently reside in. and moving to Durham, NC. I plan to attend NCCU. Is this a decent school and what do people say about it? how is the living condition surrounding this school? Is it nice or is it ghetto?

Let me correct your statement first. . .most urban HBCU's were located in what was then the black community, therefore if the area around the campus appears to be rundown it's "our" fault. Surrounding the Campus: With that being said, there is a government housing area which is about an 1/8 of a mile from the corner of campus. The good thing about attending NCCU in the fall is that the campus is expanding in the other direction and we are moving students away from that corner of campus. Academics: NCCU is known for it's history, education, nursing, criminal justice, fashion design, music and art programs on the undergraduate level and the library science, law, biotechnology, history, public administration, and education program on the graduate level. We have very fair teachers, yet do not expect them to go easy on you. You will get your **** kicked in some departments. It makes you a stronger student and a more dedicated worker. Campus Buildings: School spirit has suffered in this school year because mainly freshmen and sophomores live on campus (because the dorms are being renovated) and they don't have the influence of the upperclassmen to lead them the right way. However in the fall, three dorms shall re-open and two new ones will open. Another will follow in 2005. In addition, we have a new science building that will be complete in 2005. Every dormitory has a computer lab and every room is wired for T-1 and has cable. Other than that, the campus is striking among universities in North Carolina. There is careful attention to making our campus the perfect blend of collegiate style buildings and modern buildings. There is great landscaping and it is a good campus to walk around. Social Life: The RTP area is one of the best places to go to college in the country. There are 13 schools within 60 miles and about 28,000 black collegians in that span. Durham may seem like a sleepy town when you first get here, but if you honestly can't find anything to do between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, the problem is you. . .not the city. NCCU and Duke students party mainly on Thursday at Club Bounce (Hip-Hop) and George's Garage (Pop & Top 40). There are excellent places to eat throughout the city. Not as many well-known franchises, but enough to satisfy you, and the non-franchised places actually offer better food. Campus comes alive during football season as the die-hard fans come back and tailgate; greeks step and we host pep rallies. The band, while not as big as some other schools, puts on a great show! We also have theater group, a dance group, two choirs, a jazz band, pep band and show band, quiz bowl, campus newspaper, two modeling troupes, all 9 fraternities and sororities and two social fellowships. Well sorry about the length of the post, if you have any further questions please feel free to visit www.onnidan.com to speak with Eagle alumni and sports fans or our website www.nccu.edu. You may also visit the Eagle Fan Forum at http://b2.ezboard.com/bnccueagles. Good luck and we're glad to have you in the family. CO 97

hmm you must not remember the crowds reaction to our show... and umm didn't A&T win the comp. in Charlotte for $25,000. Oh yea were was NCCU?... not there and if they were they would have got trashed by not only A&T but by Howard and FAMU.
