Thanks...
I am planning to take my nieces to the Summer Concert that includes 50 cent, Eminem and Lil Jon. They are 17, 16 and 12. Another family member is livid that I would one, take them period and that I would especially take the 12 year old.
I have always taken our son and all his friends to various concerts since he was like 10 years old. Matter of fact I'll be going to Summer Jam with him and his friends again this summer...makes our 8th year. He gets to pick my fit from head to toe. This year I (he picked it) got me an akademik jean and red skirt/shirt and some matchin' red/blue nikes...it's cute. Son got taste.
Question: How old were you when you went to your first Concert "like" this?
Question: What do you think in general about this for the girls ?
Note: This is NOT an internet PARENTING question so please hold the "salt".

I was 17 when I went to my first concert. The "Rock Da Mic" concert with 50, sean paul, fabolous, snoop, and Jay-z.

Well it's going to be A LOT of cursing and if it's an outdoor place for the concert expect weed smoking, a lot of drinking, and people acting crazy. I'm not sure I'd take a 12 year old to see Eminem or 50 in concert, but hey whatever floats ya boat. But the 17 and 16 year old are def. old enough to go.
I was 17 when I went to my first concert....older than most people. It wasnt cause I couldnt go when I was younger I just never did.
As far as the girls are concerend I dont see an issue with it, but to be perfectly honest with you, if I were a mother I wouldnt allow my 12 year old...girl or boy, go to a concert with 50 Cent and Eminem just cause you know the profanity they use is gonna be ridiculous, and they dont need to be hearing that and the images they may see from them while they are performing is sumthing they dont need to be exposed to. Granted you can see 50 and Em on tv all the time...but its always alot worse when you see the real thing. I just deem it inappropriate for a 12 year old...but the 16 and 17 year old...thats straight...they almost grown anyway...so that aint really a biggie, and they shouldnt be as easily influenced by the images they see as would the 12 yr old.

:???:
With all due respect College Mom, you sound more like one of his homegirls than his mom. I mean...I dont think there is nothing wrong with being ur child's friend along with parent...but you come off to be a young mom...I'll put it that way. Cause What mom goes to 50 Cent and Eminem concerts with her college age son and his friend??? And what mother would see it appropriate for a 12 year old to be there? I dont know about that one.
Thanks...

SMH... please do not take the 12 yr old.
50 Cent is ignit in concert, and I regret going to see him and G-unit myself. Save your money and take them to a concert that is not based on the degradation of womankind. Like Destiny's Child or somethin...
Why would you condone their music as a parent?
You can still be "cool". Aren't you kinda grown to be wearing Akademiks?
I get embarrassed when my mother wears her lil hoochie J.LO jumpsuit, even though it fits her real cute.
I went to my first concert in 7th grade. So I was like 11. I was the B96 summer bash featuring Sisqo, Tyrese, P. Diddy, and JayZ. My older cousin took me.
if her mama doesn't have a problem with it...i think its fine for the 12 y/o to go....cuz she probably curse as much as they do anyway ( i know i did)
that aint the point tho. Thats basically condoning the behavior, and thats not the impression you wanna give a 12 year old child. I mean honestly, the cussing is the least of the problems, like Tip said...people being ****, high, hoes on stage doin crazy stuff ( cause you know rappers are QUICK to grab some groupie chick on stage who will do anything for some attention..and ive seen some OFF THE WALL stuff b4), etc...just all kinds of crazy behavior go on at rap concerts that no 12 year old needs to be exposed to period.

okay I feel that.....you're right
I know if I had a child they wouldn't be able to go until his/her senior year in high school.....
I guess I said that because it's not my child...okay my bad
My rules growing up:
If you can buy the ticket yourself, and get to the concert yourself, then you can go. - Moms
Since the 12 y/o obviously can't afford to buy the ticket and doesn't have her own car, she doesn't need to go. Let the 12 year old kid, be a kid.
And what did I just say in that other thread about grown folks wearing grown folks clothes?

I was 16 when I went to my first "real" hip-hop concert (Ludacris & Outkast). And basically it was a bunch of weed smoking and drinking going on. People just actin a damn fool. I don't think a 12yr. old needs to be at a concert w/ 50, Eminem, and ESPECIALLY not Lil Jon.
Like Cafe-Aulait said, take the 12yr old to a Destiny's Child or Ciara concert or something. Anything better than 50, Em, and Lil Jon.
