Hello and welcome to Hampton, "Our Home By the Sea",
Man, time really does fly. It was just a year ago that I was leaving Orlando and flying up to Hampton for the Pre-College program. You guys are going to have a great time if you go in with an open mind. Pre-College is exactly what is is called,"Pre-College". It won't offer you the ENTIRE Hampton experience only because there really isn't much going on during the summer, but it will provide you with enough to want to come back in Fall, atleast it did for me. I will go ahead and give you guys a heads up on whats gonna be going on, because I was working with the lady who is going to be over the program.
Bring a few suits/dresses becase you are going to have to dress up EVERY Wednesdays for manditory meetings
Bring an umbrella, because it rains atleast twice a week and last year, it rained EVERY Wednesday when we had the meetings
If you are in the Summer Bridge program, don't be embarassed, but GO to the manditory study hall. I served as a tutor last year and it will help you out. I know people who DID not get into Hampton because they didn't wanna make study hall
Bring money, lol, becase you are gonna need it for food. The cafe isn't as bad as people make it out to be, its just that it closes early
Dont bring a lot of stuff with you, because your not gonna be there that long and you dont wanna have to repackage all that stuff at the end of the session
Oh yea, don't take classes that you struggled in in high school. I will recommend that if you take English 101(take Kianga Thomas' class). If you are taking Computer Science(CSC 120, take Mitzi Vickars' class). If your takin history and you REALLY wanna learn, take Mr Dejohnette, but if you wanna get a good grade you may wanna take Mr. Robert Watson.
Depending on your dorm director it will determine ur residence life. For the brothas you pretty much don't have a choice. You are gonna hve Mr. Cullen and has the LOOOOOONGEST dorm meetins just to feed his ego, but its all apart of the experience, lol. Just remeber to agree with EVERYTHING he says and the meeting will go over smoothly and and you should be done in about 2 hours
For those of you who like to sing, join the Gospel Choir for Chapel. Its a rewarding experience
Have fun meet new people, don't hang around the same people you knew in high school. College is about gaining new experiences and expanding your horizons.
I hope that you guys have a great time and enjoy Pre-College......Good, Better, Best, NEVER Let It Rest, Until Your Good Is Better and Your Better is BEST!
Again, welcome to Hampton University and I look forward to seeing you guys in the fall. If you have any questions for me, fell free to email me or hit me up on aol, yahoo or msn messenger. *Hampton Hug*
