Hmm...the average size is 14...I really think there's a problem with America. Not to say 14 is HUGE but our nation definitely has some weight issues to figure out.

This is an article about the recently released ads for Dove soap featuring "real women." The goal of the ads is to show that not only thin women can sell a product. They say that the average model in this campaign ranged from sizes 4 to 12. But it is said that the average woman in America is a size 14. Do these ads do the women of America, especially sisters justice? I would have put this in the Ladies Forum but I also wanted to hear what the fellas had to say.
I think sizes 4-12 is a good range of sizes... I really don't know effective the ads would be after that.

yeah I'm sorry but it's just not healthy to be that big, no matter what your height is. This is a major issue in the black community. There is a difference between having curves, being thick, and being obese. You can be size 6 with curvy. If you're a size 20 with curves... they're curves of fat, not a real shape. Black people need to stop eating like we're slaves (neckbone, gizzards, chit'lins) and start eating like we're trying to live. Collard greens aren't the only damn vegetable, and candied yams don't count!
Being size a size 14 doesn't make you big or obese, doesn't it just depend on how wide you are? Not everyone can be a size 3 or 5
which is another point...height and Width DOES matter actually...You could be a hella tall girl...with flat stomach and everything...and still wear a 14 because you are just filled out....come on yall
to get back to topic...I love women who are skinny, thick, and beyond. I think if they want to show that not only a thin women can sell a product then they should actually have women of all different sizes. I'm sorry, but size four isn't that different from the "thin" women on these commercials in the first place. If they want to really reach the goal that they are tryn to reach, then they need good be a lot more diverse in size. It's not like a size 9 model is gonna look that different from one that's a size 1. Well, in my eyes at least. Bottom line, they didn't really get that extreme by bringing sizes 4-12 on. Maybe if the models were black and they had a lil something that made the difference evident, but I doubt it.

Cosigns....
now if they were talkin bout real women have curves...the models should've been in the AVERAGE range actually...but...some people just dont see it that way....but one day....one day...they will
^and another thing, some people are actually big ****...you can't help how your built
Not exactly so. I myself used to be fat when I was in elementary school. And about 5th grade I got too angry about my friends always callin me fat and did something about it. I was in the 5th grade and was doing 50 sit-ups, and played outside all day everyday. And ever since I've had a six pack and been thin. If I hadn't taken things into my own hands I'd prolly be almost, if not, twice my weight right now. But I look just like a regular skinny dude.
Now there's nothing wrong with being overweight, and I don't pass judgment on anybody. But being a former member of the overweight club myself, I know that if you really want to get out of it, you can. It's all about the person. Desire to be thin won't do anything by itself, but desire and determination sure will.
