im attending my first black college tour in june. were going to atlanta, north carolina, d.c, baltimore, alabama, new orleans. i think its alot cheeper to just go on a tour insted of visiting each interested college saparetly. if you ever went on a black college tour, what can i expect and how did you like it?
I personally have never been but I know so many people that go here at PV thanks to the black college tours. They say it's more convenient and way cheaper to do it that way they can make their choices and see how all the schools are at the same time. Plus it's alot of fun.
Black College tours are tha best! Its a lil better for girls though. The one I went on, all the girlz on our tour would always get macked on. While us guys get clowned since we were some young high school nuckleheads wit no clout. We walk on these campuses, and er'body had flashy cars wit rims & jewels in their ears.... The hoes just lost their minds when they seen all this!!! we would always get compared to these nuggas too. That was tha Worst :x
Well as a member of the Hampton University Student Recruitment Team, I would suggest you go on big college tours early like 9-10 grade. When you start getting closer to making a decision you need to go visit the schools on your own being that alot of times during big group tours you aren't able to see everything, there are distractions and ur running on a schedule. So I would suggest choosing some schools during your tour and trying to revisit them when it gets down to decision making time.
Oh yeah and about the rules...please follow them because I did a tour that they had to drop two people off at the bus station..yes they caught a cab from Hampton U...to the bus station to take the Grayhound all the way home back to Detroit.
COSIGN JJsQT (#6)...
PLEASE be on your best behavior when you visit because we've had to tell some groups NOT TO COME BACK! Detroit groups are particularly bad...
Remember, just because you aren't interested in a particular school doesn't mean the person next to you isn't...
If you are an athlete, don't forget to ask about graduation rates for athletes...
Gentlemen, out of respect take your hats/doo-rags off when you enter a building...
Make sure you ask current students questions, don't just take the information from the admissions people...
If you REALLY want to see the school, GO BACK WITH YOUR FAMILY! I know at FISK, we don't show big groups very much at all. Our counselors will really talk to you, let you meet students, visit classes and dorm rooms, etc. when you come by yourself or with your family.
My college tour was great! Unfortunately the negative side about the college tour would have to be if a school you wanted to visit wasn't on the list. My tour cancelled Fisk, TSU, and Alabama A&M. I would have loved to visit those because I hear so much about them. Also FAMU. I wanted to go there but it wasn't on the list and you know not everyone has the money to visit each school on their own. My group also went to an amusment park. I would have rather stayed on the tour and went to the schools I just listed instead. Either way I hope you have a great time!
