Alright peeps this is the place to express your feelings on the NBA dress code. For those not familiar with the new NBA dress code, here it is straight from NBA.com:
NBA Player Dress Code
1. General Policy: Business Casual
Players are required to wear Business Casual attire whenever they are engaged in team or league business.
"Business Casual" attire means
A long or short-sleeved dress shirt (collared or turtleneck), and/or a sweater.
Dress slacks, khaki pants, or dress jeans.
Appropriate shoes and socks, including dress shoes, dress boots, or other presentable shoes, but not including sneakers, sandals, flip-flops, or work boots.
2. Exceptions to Business Casual
There are the following exceptions to the general policy of Business Casual attire:
a. Players In Attendance At Games But Not In Uniform
Players who are in attendance at games but not in uniform are required to wear the following additional items when seated on the bench or in the stands during the game:
Sport Coat
Dress shoes or boots, and socks
b. Players Leaving the Arena
Players leaving the arena may wear either Business Casual attire or neat warm-up suits issued by their teams.
c. Special Events or Appearances
Teams can make exceptions to the Business Casual policy for special events or player appearances where other attire is appropriate -- e.g., participation in a basketball clinic.
3. Excluded Items
The following is a list of items that players are not allowed to wear at any time while on team or league business:
Sleeveless shirts
Shorts
T-shirts, jerseys, or sports apparel (unless appropriate for the event (e.g., a basketball clinic), team-identified, and approved by the team)
Headgear of any kind while a player is sitting on the bench or in the stands at a game, during media interviews, or during a team or league event or appearance (unless appropriate for the event or appearance, team-identified, and approved by the team)
Chains, pendants, or medallions worn over the player's clothes
Sunglasses while indoors
Headphones (other than on the team bus or plane, or in the team locker room)
Thats true but I don't think it should be necessary to have a suit on when you are on a cross country trip riding on a plane for 12 hours, nor is it necessary when you are getting back to a hotel at 3 in the morning. After reading the guidelines, I personally feel like its an indirect attack at the black players. Its like saying "I don't like all those flashy chains you're wearing or the shiny earrings u have on, take them off." I don't feel thats necessary.
Do punk rock artists have to adhere to a dress code policy?
Do comedians/musicians have to adhere to a dress code policy?
No. Those people make millions of dollars off of their talents. The only reason why the NBA is enforcing a dress code policy is to TRY to have a sense of control over their investments. Ya know, kinda like how the **** owners had to have a sense of control over their "product"....
I think it's garbage, and David Stern knows that.
The whole policy although I think players could set a better example for kids is race driven. First the ban on 18 year olds now a mandantory dress code. I am 21 I grew up on Players like MJ,Scotty,Hakkem,David when you saw them they were always dressed in suits. It wasn't until 96-97 when you saw Iverson wearing what he wants to games. You think student athletes around schools didn't follow his lead. But as soon as it got to deep into white america thats when a problem arouse. And a year after the brawl the NBA is trying to clean up its image otherwords get less ghetto and more like our fathers NBA.
I'd wear this armani suit
i think its not a big deal really....it does make the NBA look better if u ask me
and KOOL its not really about race if anything its them trying to be more like the NFL (in terms of control of players and their appearence, most teams have codes) if you think this is bad check out the NFL where u can wear nothing but REEBOK on the feild.
But its like a business thing, they want their players looking like business type people...who they are really
