Okay, the purpose of this post is for anybody who feels they have something to offer the up and coming prospective HBCU students, whether it be tricks you've found helpful along the way, dealing with admissions people, getting around rules, the application process, essays, SAT and ACT scores and just basically anything that you feel is prevelent to getting on the right track toward your college of choice

Don't be afraid to speak for yourself. Parents won't always be there to handle yours for you. Also learn to be professional and how to speak when talkin' business.
Stay on them if you want something done. BE PERSISTENT, NOT RUDE!!!!
Apply for everything EARLY.
Take your ACT/SAT early. That way you can hopefully get better scores, which will help ya out with acceptance and scholarships.
Apply for as many scholarships as you can. Also, keep up with what you apply for.
I also recommend FAXING everything. Call before hand and let them know that you are about to fax them so and so, fax it, CALL BACK, and make sure that they received it. That way, there are no discrepancies.
