"Edited"...This dude..... Posted on 04-29-2006

The people who are choosing to haze interests are threatening to destroy these organizations. You can build brotherhood by other means than inflicting bodily harm on someone. And I hardly see having some one causing your body permanent damage against your will and you takin legal action against them as "snitching", if he just saw it happen to someone else that would be a totally different story. This ****is truly getting out of hand and ridiculous.

Ladies, am no way am I condoning hazing, but the way this guy went about handling the situation is all wrong. He could've filed a complaint at the local chapter level or maybe even national level. He made the situation so much worse by going to the papers with it. Not only is he just putting a bad light on the fraternity involved, but all Black greek letter organizations. Case in point, the words they chose to describe the events. " brutally beaten".."Branded". Word? The dude got punched in the legs and popped with a rubber band. That's some stuff you do to a friend when you play around. In now way does his story compare to those that they refer to later in the article. As far as him receiving it against his will...like I said...I don't know all the details. If someone was holding him down, then yeah, he has a right to do something about it. My problem is that he's threatening to destroy the very organization he wanted to be apart of.

In my opinion it is people like this such person that I have no respect for. There are so many more ways that he could have handled it than the way he did. I could definitely understand if he was **** or something to that effect, but for what he went through, that seems very petty to me. But with alot of th cases that are coming up now, there's one thing I dont understand. When you "go under" and begin your process, you are told that at any time if you feel something is wrong, or you're being violated, you have the right, and its your responsibility/duty to speak up and say something, and unless you're bound and gagged, if you let someone do something to you that you don't agree with, you're half to blame for it. Being that I'm now a phophyte member of my respective organization, I've seen good and bad things, but I always know, and even when I was goin through, it was a personal CHOICE to continue with anything that went on and if someone doesnt have the mind or guts to walk out or stand up for themselves for something thats wrong its on them.

LOL owned! These 'hazers' are lucky that none of their linemates have had serious unreported conditions yet. Sooner or later some kid is going to die from SOMETHING that stemmed from a hazing incident. Beating someone into submission is so rudimentary, it doesn't build much of anything.

More information needs to be given for this case. This is exactly why all greek groups need a more strenous national process, especially in terms of SELECTING candidates fit for membership and the pledge process. If he already signed his anti-hazing statement, required by most offices of Greek Life and by the fraternity; they don't have much of a case. Fortunately for the complainant, they've already begun the media smear . . .which is what normally happens in this case. The legal system doesn't benefit the accused in this instance, and fighting the case in the media, basically amounts to extortion. Our legal team will probably settle out of court. I don't think his injuries are worth more than 50K, but with a good lawyer, one never knows. Whatever happened to the good ole days. . . before people started bringing crooked **** lawyers into hazing accusations? Back in the day, if it wasn't life threatening, you went to the advisor or university officials; they went ahead and let you complete your process, but you didn't get to feel 'the hood' and you couldn't step, or participate in the yard show. Now people wish to destroy the futures of their at one time potential big brothers, destroy the experience of your one-time line brothers, and bring shame to the reputation of the chapter and organization that they once sought to join. Punk moves if you ask me.

^^^....I concur. You can tell from the sensationalism in the article what they're tryna do. Extortion is the perfect description.

^^^....If you read the article and the quotes from the dude, he sounds like a whining punk. My being okay with receiving a minor beat down has nothing to do with being involved with ROTC, that's just me being a dude. Permanently scarred? A rubber band ain't a blade, and it probably left a minor laceration. Him being emotionally scarred is only gonna help him with the lawsuit. From what I understand about becoming a Greek, there's a process. And this process is meant to make the expectant appreciate the organization as well as become closer to his LB's. It basically just sound slike this guy had no idea of what he might be getting himself into. My thing is, if you have an idea of what type of things go on, then wouldn't you already had decided whether or not you were gonna let it happen to you. Dont' sit there, take it, and then go tell. Before Sh*t goes down, you let those dudes know you aint' tryna even have it. The key is power of choice. If they had held me down, then we'd have a big problem. I wouldn't run to the papers, I'd find these **** int he streets, and make em feel the pain. I'd handle it..on my own..not with my daddy. As far as not snitching, yes, I do have a problem with **** that run and tell. Yes, there are somethings which need to have light shed on them Amanda, but the way he did it wasn't cool. This is much bigger than him, and the involved organization. I'm thinkin about all the guys who crossed without incident who do represent that fraternity correctly.
ehh... i see ya point, Chris, but i still side with the guy. he didn't just go whinin to daddy, he went whinin to a JUDGE who just HAPPENED to be his daddy. smart move.
