This thread is for everyone interested in attending a school in the South Western athletic Conference. Jackson State University Arkansas Pine-Bluff Alcorn State University Texas Southern Grambling Southern Prairie View and the rest of em. post your questions and discussions here, instead of making new threads have fun :-D (i attend jackson state university, so feel free to ask me any questions)

School:Jackson State University :-D Is there a new student orientation over the summer for Fall freshman? If you're in the honors college, can your roommate be someone who is not? Can freshman have cars? Is it true, that the financial aid awards letters aren't sent out until like the end of May? Usually, when do you receive housing info?(Or in my case confirmation cuz I sent in the application and money already when it came with the Honors Application.) What are the conditions of the dorms? Specifically the one I'lll be residing in...Ummm Alexander Hall, I think? Are they clean? Rickety? Etc... Are there a lot of scholarships available for sophomores? Is it possible to get a full ride sophomore year on out, if you only got a half scholarship freshman year?

not at first. all honors students stay on the same floor. if, however, after two weeks you and your present roommate can't stand eachother, you can apply for someone else to be your roomate.

Although Dr. Harvey does not approve, yes, you can have a car your freshman year, just pay your 50$

you should receive it two weeks after receiving your admissions letter

Ah yes, Alexander Housing Projects, I mean, Residence Hall. Yes they are clean, but NEVER FORGET YOUR SHOWER SHOES. The rooms are actually decent size compared to MANY school, even Big Ten schools. Elevators are apt to break down on a whim, so you'll have very well developed calf muscles by semester's end. Rooms are freezing with the air on and stifling with the heat on, so get used to cracking your window when using either of those. Walls are thin, so if your neighbor wakes up to BET, you will too. Laundry is free,, but watch out for triflin hoes who steal underwear (maybe that was just my class)

now there's a question. it all depends on the college you are a part of. there are several small scholarships available for sophomores (ranging from 250$-3500) through Jackson State University. However, depending on your major, if your grades are just EXCELLENT you may qualify for additional help. i know science majors get stipends for doing research, up to 1500 a semester, but ask when you get here. a bit of advice: ASK QUESTIONS EARLY. There is a lot of **** in this school as far as administration and financial aid, and many of the available monies are doled out on a DON'T TELL basis. The earlier you inquire about different funds for students, the better your chances are of receiving them before adminstration pockets the money. Case in point, i am a presidential scholar (yea the girl is smart), and part of our contract stipulates a Laptop Fund for us. however, only people who knew about the fund recieved their computers, because someone is pocketing the money for it and not informing the students.(i just talked to the president about recieving mine lol) so be out for yourself
