Ok, so here is another cat from China coming over to the United States to play pro basketball. If you haven't heard of him yet, his name is Sun Ming Ming. He is slated to start playing for his new team, the Maryland Nighthawks (of the American Basketball Association [ABA]), this weekend. Why are they excited about this phenom?
Well, maybe it's because he is 7' 9" tall. Yup. Seven feet, nine inches tall. And he is only 23 years old.
OK. He is tall. But can he play? Is he just another Gheorghe Muresan or Manute Bol? My guess is that he can probably dunk it without even leaving the ground. But still, what would his impact be?
Will he feel so overpowering that he gets travelling and charge calls? I mean, he does also weigh 370 pounds. That's way past NFL offensive lineman size. Way heavier than Shaq.
I don't know about this cat, I'm thinking he might be to tall and maybe a klutz on the court, But only time will tell. I mean it did take Yao Ming a few years to get into the flow of things in the NBA. But I will tell you this ... he will have the attention of all the NBA teams.
They just did a special on him on TV. When the recruiters brought him from China, he was as green as anyone could possibly be. He has a long way to go in terms of ball handling and endurance. But he is improving... he just get drafted into the minors so who knows? With more training, we could be looking at a serious player in a year or two.Plus, he's undergoing treatment for brain cancer, which could affect his performance. But I would still keep an eye out for him...
If I dunk on him, how will that fare for his chances in the NBA...

Have ya'll seen highlights of Kenny George? The tallest player in college basketball at 7' 7". I saw highlights of the UNC-Asheville/UNC-Chapel Hill game and it's unreal as to how big this kid is. Even though he only had 4 blocks in that game, he looked like a giant swatting flies!
