I've been to countless events all over the country...superbowl in Atlanta, New Orleans and Miami, All Star weekend in Atlanta and L.A., Essence Festival in New Orleans, Pro Bowl in Hawaii, 3 times to Miami for Memorial day weekend, 2 times to Miami for Springfest, 2 times to Miami for Labor Day, Miami Music Festival, 2 times to Vegas for the MAGIC Show and MANY other events where Black people attend to have a good time and I HAVE NEVER, EVER, EVER seen Black people behave so ignorantly (is that a word?) as I did in Vegas last week for All Star! Walking around throwing up gang signs, being loud, unruly, disrespectful to women, feet on the blackjack table at MGM, fighting -- actually physically fighting over cabs in front of Ceasars Palace, 2 people got shot at Ceasars Palace and one girl actually got **** running across the street. I thought I seen it all until someone had a 40 ounce bottle of beer on the blackjack table! Young women were walking around the casino in mini dresses and pumps at 10am! Body parts hanging out all over the place. People come to Vegas from all over the world and for the first time I was actually embarrassed for my race because people who dont know any better may actually think that all Black people behave that way. Dont get me wrong, there were thousands of blacks who behaved with class, but the ones who didnt out shined us all! It was so sad to think that in February 2007, black history month at that, some Black people still dont get it. Our ancestors GAVE THEIR LIVES so we could have the opportunity to go to places like Las Vegas and enjoy the same luxuries and rights as others. Ive been to Vegas several times and it was never that way. I felt so sad, I felt like I was walking among a lost generation of people without any cultural identity, self respect or self pride that are doing nothing but moving our race backwards.....Am I the only one that felt this way?
I did not attend the NBA All Star game is Vegas, but I am sad that we did not present ourselves with class and sophistication. I think we need to stop making it cool to be ignorant. I think the best influence we have on our generation is setting the standard high and showing people it’s possible to achieve. Therefore, I recommend we mentor our young people and lead by example. Let’s carry ourselves with class, pride, and cultural identity.
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all these (George Washington Carver, African-American scientist)
i myself am dissapointed and i am a youngin. I mean everybody knows the sayin ' act like you got some sense' and the way you were describin these people , they aint have no sense at all. Damn Shame. If they are our future them i am scared.
We can feel as sad as we want to feel but the truth is that we are among a lost generation that loves to blame others for everything bad and want credit for all the good. This generation is in some serious trouble and you would think that with all the success that blacks are having of late, we would see a change in behavior. We are but we don't see the positive mostly so more of us have to set better examples for the next generation and start from there. I think we lost a lot from this generation to completely fix it is impossible. Blacks are in trouble if we don't start seeing a change, we are in-slaving ourselves
Obama is not going to do a damn thing about it...he cant risk losing the white votes he needs to win. Blacks are not going to elect a Black president, whites have to because Black people dont vote and when we try to we are disenfranchised....Obama is going to smile, wave, and kiss babys like the rest of them...I would be suprised if he shook things up, at least not until the election is over.
it was rediculous....all talk radio sports was talking about it and one of the major reason why we DON'T want it down here in phoenix....can you imagine that a city that doesn't want a major sporting event? a city refusing to host a "superbowl" due to these gangsters and thungs...smh
I did not attend the All-Star Game in Las Vegas but I did hear about some of the things that were going it. It is a shame that people still act like that but it happens all the time. I wouldn't say that you are wrong in thinking that, but in Las Vegas it is known that pretty much everything is legal. That doesn't make it ok for people to behave that way at all though. I feel the same way you do.
I don't agree with they way people were said to be acting, which I believe is true because all the gangsters came down from Cali to Vegas (which is like a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive). But I do disagree with one part of your original post, you said girls were waliking around at 10 am in heels and mini skirts, I guess since this is your first time to Vegas this is new to you but that's the norm for vegas, especially if you just came from the club or from having breakfast after the club. I mean it was "ALL STAR WEEKEND" so that should have told you there would be females there dressed to catch a NBA player or celebrity. And they know dressing that way is the only way to catch one. And why is it that its okay to dress that way in Miami(as we constantly hear) but if a woman dresses that way in any other city their seen as offensive?
