Hello, everyone, I am a Boricua sister.
I am a graduate student at Stony Brook University in New York. I am doing my Master in Arts and Liberal Studies. I have a BS in Biology from Univ. of Puerto Rico, and 27 graduate credits in Biology. I am completing the requirements for Permanent Certification as a NY State Biology Teacher. I am currently working as a Per Diem Substitute Teacher at the Brentwood School District in Long Island. The students are mainly Hispanics and African American. I love the atmosphere of unity and sense of pride in that community! The students appear resilient and very down-to-earth and are very welcoming. I also participate in a Taino ( Caribbean Native American) activist forum.
I am married and I have three kids ( two teenage boys and a toddler girl). Economically it is a struggle, and the logistics are crazy, but hey, I love it! I am active in my church, and participate in Moms In Touch Prayer Group (we pray for everyone in our school district), which is an interdenominational prayer group. Even though I am a Christian, I am very open-minded. I am all for unity and love between peoples of all races and creed.
Peace,
Madeline
Welcome to HBCUconnect, Madeline!
I used to live on Long Island, so I am familiar with the unity and community pride. Although I am not Puerto Rican, I do love me some Boricuas! I almost lost my mind at the Puerto Rican Day Parade last year lol.
Again, welcome to HBCUconnect. Congrats on your BS, good luck with your Masters and hopefully you can receive your Doctoral degree from Howard University!
