I'm considering attending an HBCU. but alot of people feel that by attending an HBCU. There aren't as many chances to learn how to compete in a multicultural and diverse society/ So all the peeps who attend HBCU, from your experiences do you think you made the right decision.
well i dont attend college yet but i do attend an predominately white high school and even though im challeged academically there is no sense of family i sometimes often feel seperated and thats why i want to attend a hbcu for two reasons 1. be surrounded by people like me who are doing good 2. included in a family based environment
as to adapting in a multicultural environment- that's everyday life the world is not just black/white and that what it seems a lot of school represent but if you were to look at number mostly white people are in college even at a school thats considered diverse white people are the majority. not a lot of white people attend all black schools to learn how to deal with black people. i believe it all goes back to your values and in all respect for human beings if those are straight it should'nt matter what school you attend

Well I do think I made the right decision. I attend Albany State University and I love it. We get what we're goin for. An education. Look. At a predom. white college or whatever you would prefer to call it, Im almost certain that your professors wont push you like the professors at an HBCU. THey want us to succeed. They give second chances (not that we should slack and expect that) but the point is, they want to see us become whatever it is that we want to become. They care. They want to teach us that very thing that you're wondering about. How to compete in a multicultural and diverse society...Dont think that bcuz u may attend an hbcu that the only people that will be around you or teach you are black. They are from many different cultures. They will push you. Now you might have 1 or 2 that don't care as much, but as for the bulk, they care. And plus we have fun on the yard and off the yard. But we get what's needed. That education! But whatever you choose. Just get that paper. U'll be fine!
I attended both a HCBU as well as a traditional. I liked the experience I got at the HCBU, however it is NOT a realistic representation of the real world in terms of diversity (especially in technical/engineering fields) as well as the hard, cold nature of the real world. I will say that many of us do need that interim phase--particularly those of us who are new to that type of lifestyle.
I'm glad to have had the opportunity to do both. Did I make the right choice? Not for my field, no. But I don't lament the decision for one moment. LIke I said, it was a great experience and I developed wonderful relationships.
YES I did make the right decision....if you are very driven then nothing should keep you from achieving your goals...If YOU personally feel like you wouldn't be able to make it with an HBCU degree then go somewhere where its easier for you to do so.
