new orleans is below sea level mmk.. **** katrina was not the FIRST time the city flooded and suffered damage and casualties and will not be the LAST. the city also lies on the banks of the mississippi..therefore all the more prone to flooding. i'd never make light of a situation like that, especially since i'm a native of Houston and experienced firsthand the effects of tropical storm allison.
so as they say:

Uh, so im guessin you're going to learn to jump out of a burning building or attempt to overthrow a hijacker before you get on another plane, huh. Cuz 9/11 was not tha FIRST time a hi-jacking happened, and definitaley not tha LAST...
No thats illogical to say that you weren't referring to that incident with the swimming statement however, for embarassments sake you do not have to admit it.
Because with the statitistics showing that New orleans averages 57 inches of rainfall a year, and to be a "consistent" flood zone, you must have a minimum of 65 inches, i dont think swimming lessons every trip would be neccesary...
Soooooowahhhhhh, please dont SYH @ me... just pick it up and see tha whole spectrum....

i'm FROM the gulf coast, so I know (like i already said) firsthand about flooding in TX as well as in LA well before the floods and tropical storms that the rest of the country hears about. as far as I'm concerned, my comment was on the same level as somebody moving to New York or Cleveland saying they need snow boots and gloves. there are weather conditions specific to any geographical place, and since New Orleans is more prone to flooding than Houston (without any chance of water run-off) it would behoove anyone new to the area to be ready for such weather conditions.
thus, what's illogical is insisting that you know the intention behind the comments of anyone but yourself.
No, it would be like some one moving to New york saying they'll need a helmet for the falling rubble from the plane attacked buildings...
Because, as with tha N.O statement, saying helmets would be a way to patronize the situation...
The amount of people who would wear a helmet to NY, would be the same as the amount that would get swimming lessons to endow themselves protected in a flood...
instead of locating evacuation routes or taking flood precautions... but hey maybe they're illogical to you...
I rest my case... Wish you luck in tha N.O, and i wouldn't reccomend you make any "geographical statements" when you get there...
