For my English AP 12 class we have to write an admissions essays to a college of our choice. Of course I chose SPELMAN! Anyway, we have to use the essay that Spelman has posted on the website, and man it's kind of difficult to attack.
It seemed easy until I actually tried to peice everything together...
I just came on here to get advice on how you guys would attack an essay such as this one........
"Seeking knowledge and commitment to service are integral parts of the Spelman experience. Discuss and illustrate the ways in which you have shown your commitment to these areas."
I see they are looking for examples of your assertiveness in wanting to know more so I'd list things that you've done outside of regular coursework or things you've done to strengthen your mind. Taking higher level (AP/Honors) courses could be a way to show that you're pushing yourself, if that's your case. Think about it and I'm sure you can come up with some things.
In wanting to know your "commitment to service", you'll want to mention your accomplishments in community service. Not just say "I'm a tutor, I assist at a nursing home...." but talk about what you've done in those positions. Be sure to mention how long you've been involved in it, that will show dedication and commitment.
Lay out all that you're involved in and go from there.
I pray that helps.
