The way the HBCU Connect communication process works, I'm not sure what I'm replying to. For instance, is "well, I'm not sure what the point in that message was", is that a note from me or a note to me? I still don't know what "you've been poked means" because when you reply there's nothing there. I like the concept, it's just a little difficult to follow once you get one of these prompts from HBCU Connect.
You're referring to functionality that's a part of the main site. You are currently in the Forums of HBCUConnect, it's a feature of the main site.
When you were "poked" (on the main site) it just means that someone went to your profile page on the main site and poked you to get your attention or just to let you know that they visited your page. When you got the email notice, the link within the message should have taken you directly to the person's profile who poked you. That's all "poking" means. I hope that helps you out!
