If I was to get denied I was going to wear my Spelman shirt with caution tape all of it...lol

i heard of people getting waitlisted...i think wat it means is that if someone decides that they will not attend you will then take their place. I dont think u will find that out until after scholarships are mailed out and people (like me) make their final decision. I was talking to one of my teachers and she is so confused. There are people getting accepted to HBCU (including Spelman) that are academically talented and they people in my school is get into these hbcus in lower level classes. My teacher even question how someone who is in cosmetology class for half of the day got into spelman and so many pther people are getting denied and waitlisted. I heard of a girl in lower level class getting into howard and a girl who took honors classes being denied. so who kows...good luck. if they dont give me any money i wont go and you can have my spot...lol

Wow!!!This getting even crazier each day!!! Like seriously, what are the Admissions people thinking. But then again, there has to be sme kind of diversity some where.Lol!!!

I get wat ur saying but at the same time i wud feel some type of way if i busted my **** throughout high school and took more challenging classes and in the end get denied to a school when someone else who hasnt worked as hard, struggled as much as you, and challenged themself as much as u did got in. who knows wat they'r elooking for. I heard a rumor (key word beng rumor) that they give out less than 70 scholarships to incoming freshman like only about 50 scholarships. im like wth cause spelman has the money to give they just dont want to give it...they claim they want to educate african americans but they're making it so hard to get educated at a black school(spelman at least) when they refuse to help black people pay for education. i think if u get into spelman then ur talented(for the most part) and deserve to be rewarded for it. Who knows...im still holding out for possibly getting money from spelman but it seems like they dont care about the may 1st deadline....*sigh*

Courtnie, I TOTALLY get what you are saying. I was actully thinkin the same thing. You're absolutely correct about them being so 'tight- ****' with their money, and even though what you heard was a rumor, I don't believe it's that far off. I've heard from a number of people, including Spelman alumnae, that you'll be better off getting money from private scholarships and grants, and if worst comes to worst, loans. While it is true that one can expect the majority of her financial aid to come from loans, it still doesn't make most girls say that they won't attend Spelman. And Spelman gets that, which is why they (Spelman) are able to offer girls $26,000 and still have girls breaking their necks to get in. As far as busting my **** to get in and having someone who haven't been doing as much as I have is frustrating, but I try not to think about it so much because in reality, I have yet to be denied or accepted. The only thing I could do is pray about it. Sometimes I just have to laugh to keep from crying, because this really is my dream, but hey, I have to stay positive and hope that when it's all said and done there'll be a place somewhere for me.

OK, so I agree with many of you. SEEK OUTSIDE GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS!!! I have to get many outside scholarships. If you are not afraid of writing an essay, then your alright. Anyways, a waitlist is not a deny... so just keep praying and I hope you get in. : ) Spelman College Class of 2013
