I'm currently a junior at Morgan State and I just wanted to open this up to answer any questions you have about my school. Anything you wanna ask...I'm here. I LOOOOOOVVVVVE my school, and I had the grades(3.8) and scores(28 ACT) to get into the "top" HBCU's and PWI's. In the end, I'm glad I came to Morgan and stayed. So ask away!
*Yes, I know there is a thread for it in the yard but no one seems to go there.
I'm not heading there in the fall but hopefully next year. I was just curious as too any tips to giving me the best chance at getting accepted. Also concerning the Electrical/Computer Eng program, does the program require you to know anything extra? Thanks in advance G.
The program doesn't require anything extra, but it would help to take calculus in high school. The engineering program is one of our best programs, we are funded by NASA and Hewlett Packard, among other top organizations.
On getting accepted, take the SAT or ACT as Morgan accepts both. I personally say take the ACT especially since it has math and science on it. Since you want to go into engineering, I will assume you are good at those subjects and will encourage you to take the ACT even more. Try to keep a 3.0+GPA as well because it will increase your chances of getting a scholarship. If you are from Maryland, I recommend coming to Morgan and applying in person because they do admission on the spot if you meet all the admissions criteria.
Thanks for the tips G. I'll definitely be going the extra mile to keep the GPA up and put a little bit more emphasis on the ACT. I'm not from Maryland but hopefully next semester, I'll be able to organize a college trip and get a good look at the campus. Your thoughts on the engineering program has got me hype. If it is as good as you make it out to be, I'll be rocking the orange and blue next year.
ok I have a couple of questions because I will be going there in the fall.
1. How are the teachers/classes?
2. Freshman Dorms. Are they nice?
3. Foxy Dancers. When are the tryouts and what are the requirements?
4. What type of scholarships do they give once you're accepted. Like per semester.
5. I just got my acceptance letter Friday and I was wondering when will be the latest that I will need to send in my Room form and Medical forms?
6. Because my book didn't come with an envelope to send my confirmation and everything back in do you think that I should just send it through my high school to make that it gets there?
Thanx in Advance
Depends on your major
1. Imma business major so I can mainly speak on those teachers. African teachers were a pain in every subject except math. Every other teacher is pretty cool, but make sure you talk to them outside of class. Just stop by
their office a couple times a semester to talk about your grade and make small talk.
2. Freshman dorms suck...If you're an honors student you'll be good because harper tubman is the best dorm on campus. But the other freshman dorm is Blount and that **** but some ppl love it. After your first year though you are free to choose where you want to live. You can also have a car your freshman year so that helps too.
3. Im not sure when the tryouts are for the foxy's. You need to know how to dance since you have to audition with your own routine. There may be other requirements like GPA and credit requirements but Im not exactly sure. You'll definitely find out when you get here. One of my close friends is one and I could introduce you to her in the fall.
4.There are many scholarships. Since you are a freshman, you can get anything from a full ride(from the honors program) to a book scholarship(from the msu foundation). I have an honors scholarships which pays up to $7500 per semester and gives me $500 for books per semester as well as long as I maintaina 3.4 gpa per semester. I also get a Pell grant from the Federal gov't and another grant from Maryland. This combination allows me to go to school for free as an in state resident and all of those come from filling out a FAFSA (financial aid form). IF you haven't filled out your FAFSA,and put Morgan on there you won't be getting any financial aid.
5.Send in your forms ASAP. They still have rooms available but the earlier the better. As soon as you have enough for a deposit send it in. Preferably by the end of June.
6. Review the housing application carefully, and complete and return it with the required fee of $200 to the Office of Residence Life, Morgan State University 1700 E. Coldspring Lane, Tubman Rm 114, Baltimore, Maryland 21251. (from the website)
For the health forms, bring them to Morgan with you during the Introduction to the University program if you can. I brought mine with me just before the first week of school when all the freshman have to come anyway.
Browse through the website, they have a section for admitted students
For Admitted Students Only

I visited MSU on Spring break and i instantly fell in love with the campus ! I have visited other HBCU's but nothing has compared. I have 3 questions . I am about to send my application and i missed the Nov. 15 deadline , but if i send it by Nov. 22 will it come late or will it come with "early admissions" because its only a few days late. My next question is i want to try out for the Foxxy Dancers but i have no band history . i cheered for 5 years at my high school and many more before that and have decided to switch up my scene. have there been any girls that have tried out with no band experience and made the team ? My last question, Im very particular about my hair and would like to know if there are any hair stylists in the area i could be referred to. im not good with hair so its a big deal to me. Well thats it i look forward to coming ndd being a MSU bear <3
