Hotep,
Peace and Blessing unto you and your whole household
IT was a sad day on Friday May 26th 2004 at 11am est.
I looked into my mail box and there was a letter from a very respected school in the Midwest. The Letter said that I had been accepted and that was all I needed to see.
I said well HBCU haven't done their Job and now It's time to fire them and let the Predominantly White Colleges do what they do best!!!
I gave Wilberforce a Try but they failed, mess up my Money, and won't call me back. I have to get a deferments on my loan because they didn't tell Sallie Mae I was in school . Drama that all that they have cause me!
They didn't have summer school. The dorms look like a prison.
So, I had to Jump ship and Next Fall I will be Attending Otterbein College in Westerville, Oh it a suburb of Columbus.
The bill is steep at $27,000 at year and about $700-$800 in books but I done my homework(this time) it's worth every penny.
I trying to go to GRAD School and If I would have stayed at the WU I wouldn't feel prepared.
Sad but the Truth!
I will miss some of my friends I told them they seemed sad but I told a few that I would visit them when school start back.
GOOD BYE HBCU And HELLO PWI
The Prince
I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with your HBCU but being at a PWI doesn't necessarily mean that it will be better. I mean it probably is the best thing for you right now but be prepared to find out that it may not be all what it seems. I still believe that Hbcu's are wonderful and Black ppl and others should consider them also. But I congratulate you and I wish you the best of luck.
"College" doesn't mean anything..... some Ivy league schools will not give below a B... What you get from the college you attend is what you put into it, and what you get up and take from it, nothing is handed to you. I'm so glad I go to an HBCU because I see that it will prepare me for ANYTHING. Making it through will all the hurdles, the adversity, the unorganized EVERYTHING, I know that I will be able to easily handle anything that comes my way. Also, with the parties and clubs open every night with the addition of all the other distractions, if I can make it through, I have already been taught self restraint as well as the ability to manage time well... The things that everyone sees as problems now will in fact be your saving graces... I sometimes think that they purposely throw in all the adversity to make us better people...At a PWI everything is given to you, at an HBCU, you have to get up and take it.
just my 2 cents
^CORRECTION.....i dont know what PWI u are referring to, but at mines-NOTHING is just given to u. I think that is such a biased opinion. College is college-whether its a HBCU or a PWI, ur gonna have to work ur a$$ off to get good grades and get some free money. VCU aint give me SH!T referring to financial aid....in fact VCU has a lot of HOnor students-but do u think they got any money?? Not alot, if any-VCU is a lil stingy on givin out anything to they students....but if u an athelete...oh they will be there, which ur financial aid on a silver platter  .Now thats jus my two cents.....HOLLA 8)
i wasnt talking about money, i was talking about organization wise, losing papers and important documents  , housing assignments, registration, administration... things like that
All that is not just givin to u either....last summer i did not have my housing assignement until move in day And i was a freshman....my loans-Financial aid said they aint have them....next day they did and i didnt owe any money..then a week later i owe like $900 and some change.........it all depends on what school u go to, cuz some PWI's aint no better than some of these HBCU's (organization wise)......
HBCUs are still very important I now alot of black students who are getting a good education at a HBCU because a HBCU took a chance on them. And it really does depend on the school as far as adminstration.
