I think this is true in underdeveloped relationships... like when u first meet people... As soon as someone who who seems better catches your eye, ur ready to jump at tha opportunity.
But after awhile of gettin to know someone and developing bonds with them, u are less likely to trade them for someone who seems better.... U arent willing to take that chance.
