LoL. Bein real, I think Detroit people SEEM TO BE some of the more stuck up people I see at FAMU. Thing is, a lot of em are coo when u talk to em, but most people from everywhere else say whas up and all when they walk by, but people from Detroit don't say that if they dont know u.
The idea for this thread was mainly because we had this open forum about the differences between states and all, and I remember the two people from Detroit/Michigan said the same thing. They said that they aren't stuck up, but natrually, they just aren't nice to people they don't know because in Detroit if you walk by somebody sayin whas up, it's like you are startin somethin or whatever. It is kinda hard to believe unless they are just in a grimey part, because even in L.A., I'll say whas up to gangbangers I don't know, basically sayin I see you, and I'm not gonna look down as if I am scared, but I am not tryin to start anything with you.
On a state level, I had the biggest problem when I first went to Central. When I didn't speak to the folk who walked by that I didn't know, and when I wore my scowl, and when I was joking folk, people thought I was mean-spirited.
Wasn't that at all, we just got tudes in Fayettenam. I love it, gives us a swagger. When folk would ask where I was from, they'd like automatcially understand why I was like that. I've softened up a lot over the years.
I am a soon to be frosh in high school. That said, I moved to the south (south of Houston) from lily-white Minnesota 2 years ago, AND there is a big difference in attitude among blacks. It was assumed that I only like white females cuz I am from up north—that is FAR from the truth. I would never have a white girl—just isn’t me. Secondly, it is assumed I lived around white folk all of my life— a partial truth, but I also lived in the hood a few years.
Black folk down here think young black males they don’t know are up to no good , are ignorant and just jumped off the watermelon truck--that is until I open my mouth and speak.
All the brothers my age are gangsta, rappa, or preacher wannabes-sorry if I offended anyone, but it’s the truth. No one talks about going to college or being anything other than a gangsta rapp’n preacher. Ridiculous. Some think I am arrogant, stuck up, or whatever, but I am not. What is perceived as arrogance is basic home training and a love for learning—can’t knock a brother cuz his brain is a sponge, and his mums expects him to treat a lady nice, speak proper English, realize and own dreams and aspirations
Oh, I thought all the southern girls were church girls with morals. Well let me say that there are a lot of pregnant girls and mommas entering high school this fall. Those that are not pregnant or already with a baby, look like they are a Gemini video reject. My assumptions about the south were far from reality.
I understand now what my pops was stating about how a Chico or Brother wanting to do something with his life is considered a turncoat. But I am taking his advise to heart and being the best at what ever is important to me--forget everyone else, cuz I am the one that has to put food on my table after I’m done with school.

LOL, you aren't the only one. It is always hard to generalize a large number of people in any way, but being that my parents and family are from down south, they used to always tell me that I would find my wife down here and that the females here all have higher morals and are more religious and everything else than the ones in California. Well....there are a FEW of those left out here, but they are a lot harder to find. You will find them in college more than anywhere else, but even at that, it's hard to find them because a lot of girls nowadays are just wild. When I first started goin to big events like Homecomings, I didn't realize how **** some of the females were. I am sure that they don't represent all of the girls down south, and I know they all aren't like that, but those are the ones that make themselves stand out the most.
Hmm...when I first came from Florida I thought people would show that " southern hospitality " and have great manners. Altho some do, alot dont. I was more surprised at the fact that people werent as mannerable and proper as I expected. But I came to realize tjat most of em aint nuthin but a bunch of country **** n*ggas. ( no offense to my down south people ).
im from the south went up north, the biggest one stereotype was that southern women are so nice and genial that you can just step all over us and/or that we dont have dating preferences...and us southern women are the ones you really dont wanna mess with, we are nice but just dont insult us...like the time some shuttle bus driver heard my accent and was like "oh you southern, i heard yall women know how to treat a man" and winking...i was so disgusted i wanted to gag at that old man...and i get that same thing all the time like us southern women are designed to be stepford wives because of the accent  ...another stereotype is that since we are southern that we cant be hard/be mean/cant be taken seriously if we do get angry...i dont admit to being hard...but i know a bunch of southern negroes who will **** more often than a northern one
^^^Yeah, I saw some comments on here on a particular thread about southern women can be "stepped on" and we are submissive. That is so untrue. We don't take no mess but we ain't that quick to cop attitudes either over the small stuff either.
