I had a new idea yesterday. I noticed that a lot of black people are still mad at slavery and angry with the oppression we experienced throughout the 1900's. We tend to blame our situation on the white man. I feel like if we keep these feelings bottled inside we won't be able to make any more progress. These negative emotions are what's keeping black people down.
I understand there have been unspeakable moral injustices, and crimes done to black people, but what benefit is it to harbor anger inside. I think we as a people need to forgive our oppressors and erase any negative emotions we have toward them, take responsiblity for our current situation and move on.
I ain't with the forgiving the oppressors thing. I won't hold their crimes agianst their ancestors today, because calling them **** owners would be callin me a ****...get me? There are good and bad people out there of different races, of all races. Individuals are responsible for their setbacks(most of the time) not some other man. Its a diversion of responsibility by claiming that "the white man" is responsible for every shortcomming you have... thats ignorant.
I don't blame any oppressor, white man, police officer or any other individual for our current (lowly) status in society. However, I do recognize that they have something to do with it. I agree it is time to stop blaming "the white man" and start taking responsibility for our actions. At the same time it would be ignorant to just say that the past has nothing to do with the present. My solution, research and become as educated about the past as possible and use that to progress into the future.
