Im a sophomore in highschooland I have a problem.
I did very bad my Freshman year. I mean I got an 1.92 GPA. For the first Semester of my sophomore year I got an 1.9, but I'm taking 2 classes over so in the summer soI will have a2.5. Its not that I don't know how to do the work or the work is hard. I have all Honors classes, but I just did no apply myself. I know that I will get a 4.0 for the next 5 semesters, but even with that I will only have an overall GPA of an 3.25 or something. I want to go to Hampton or Clark. BUt not with a GPA like that. I need some suggestions on what to do when applying to college so even though my GPA is low they will still consider me!
THanx Kay!
Its good that you are planning ahead for college, but I mean damn I think that there are some things that you need to think about first.
How do you know that you are going to have a 4.0 for the next five semester???
Are you sure that those are the colleges that you want to go to???
Try not to worry about what you did in the past, just do the best that you can in the future. Sometimes, they don't even care about what you did your freshman and sophmore years, just your junior and senior years. If you do good the rest of this year, and for the remainder of the time that you are in highschool, then you really dont have to much to worry about.
All I have to say is keep planning ahead, Do things early, and apply for as much stuff as you can, meaning grants, loans, scholarships, internships, and colleges that you are considering going to. Applying for things late can be just as bad as, or worse than messing up with your grades. Good luck and I hope that you achieve your goals.
All I can say is keep your GPA above a 3.0. Make sure you SAT or ACT score is tight and you'll be fine. I had a 3.2 with a SAT score if 1090. I got into the University of Tennessee, FAMU, Morehouse, Howard, Alcorn State, Tennessee State, Texas Southern, Georgia Southern, and Georgia State. Any school I applied to, I got it. All you have to do is make sure you state focused and just apply. Even if you don't think you'll get in, apply. To help you raise your GPA, you should take some of your core academic classes in summer school and during the regular school year take a bunch of elective. This would of course cost money, unless they've got free summer school for high school student now (which I doubt). You'll be alright though.
A little advice....to make yourself more marketable to both colleges and scholarships, focus on your grades and also think about extra-cirricular/volunteer work. Extra -cirricular does not only mean sports. Hope this was some help. HOLLA!
To whoever recieves this message and can help me out,
My name is Kevin and I am a junior at the ledgendary TC WILLIAMS (you know.... the "Remember the Titans" school?) well, back to the subject. Im looking at all of these HBCs and they all set some type of GPA requirement and SAT requirement. My GPAs frome the 9th grade to now are as follows,,,, 9th grade=2.00, 10th grade=2.21, 11th grade= 1st quater 2.58, 2nd quater 2.75 and 3rd and 4th quater are undecided.
Im not quite sure if im on the right road to college. I believe that my grades are boarder lined o.k. but the financial part will **** me in the future. I need to know more about how finanial aid will work and how my grades NOW will effect me in the future.
