Blood is Thicker Then Water.....Right?? Posted on 08-08-2004
In Rod We Trust

Thats the famous quote that I hear all the time...But Im having second thought about it... Last night I went to a car club picnic ( car clubs are big out here in chicago..and my cousin is in the chevy impala club) So we were having a good time chilling...eating..all that good stuff. So right when we was about to leave my guy cousin asked us did we want to ride with his car club that nite... (side note) When car clubs right they go through stop signs..stop lights..and they ride in a straight line. and THEY DONT LET OTHER CARS THROUGH...remember that So picture this..its a car in front of me..my girl cousin is the car behind me..and my guy cousin is in the car behind her...this other car who isnt in the car club starts zooming in and out of the lanes..hitting his breaks..all that other crap.. We get to a stop sign and the car who was driving all crazy cuts the car off thats in front of me...the car thats in front of me hits his breaks hard..Then I hit my breaks HARD..but i end up bumping his car..nothing bad tho just a slight bump At that moment my friend who was in the car with me says " Thank God you only bumped him" BAM I **** forward and hit my head on the steering wheel. Next thing I know I hear screaming..I jump out my car and its my girl cousin..her air bags deflated and she had her newborn child in her arms walking up and down trying to calm him.... Then I look at my car...its fine......but hers......is UNDER my car..he whole front is under my car..I pull my car up..and off top of hers and her whole front is SMASHED in..my car has a dent in the back..and in the front from where i hit the car in front of me when she hit me... We both are covered by insurance...full coverage...but I have a 500 dollar deductable..meaning if something is wrong with my car..I have to come out my pocket 500 dollars and insurance will pay the rest... I just got my car fixed..i just put 500 dollars into it with brand new tires..and wheel alignment..**** change..air conditioner..everything i needed because I just found out I CAN TAKE MY CAR TO SCHOOL WITH ME. My cousin on the other hand was irresponsible...she wasnt paying attention and THATS why she hit me. Now she's a single mother..she lives with our aunt because her step father put her out because she's a wild child..and she has a 4 month baby boy..and NO JOB... But thats not my fault right?? And I need my car fixed right?? So Im thinking of file'in a claim against her insurance..which...will make her insurance SKY ROCKET... So is blood really thicker then water?? My mother has said she wont pay for my car..my father said he can do half..and i can do the other half..which will leave me broke. And with only 300 dollars in my banking account. Is blood thicker then water? Should I file a claim? Or should I suck it up and pay for the damages myself??

I understand where you coming from with this one...This is a tough one though. I guess what you need to decide for yourself is if it is worth you and ur cousin having friction between the two of you cause u basically want her to pay the damages of an accident which was her fault. I mean...ur cousin should AUTOMATICALLY say she would give you the money for the damages...but like u said...she is a single mom with no job, so that is not about to happen. If I were in this situation, I honestly dont know what I would do...I think you should pray over this before you make any decisions and talk to other family members for their thoughts and opinions...and of course talk to your cousin, and basically let her know this is what u think u have to do cause u shouldnt have to come outta pocket for the wreck. Hopefully whatever you end up doing want cause any negativity between u and her...cause fighting with family and ending reltaionships with ur family over money isnt always worth it. Good luck in whatever u decide.

i say go ahead and pay for it, because if u try to make her pay and she refuses that means you gotta take her to court and stuff, which will put a bigger hole in your pocket tryna pay for a lawyer or whateva, so pay it and move on with life, even though it wasn't your fault (that's why they call it an "accident") lol

Jamila said it best but i'll still put my two cents in. i think that if you can talk to her about her paying it some kinda way, then do so. but if you think she'll flip out and y'all won't be coo no more, evaluate if that's worth it. if you don't care about being coo with her make her pay for it at all costs. but if you do care, try to work something out.

I have to agree with Rod on this one. Its not like that your sister, brother or somethin. I mean this girl has shown her irresponsability so talking to her about won't make much of a difference.

You need to look at all possibilities... how is filing against your insurance going to affect your premium? Still, your cousin caused the accident and should pay...period. Would she make you pay if the situation was reverse...YES. I know if my cousin fucced up my ride, he would be paying one way or another.
