Okay lovely people of HBCU's here are my imputs on D.C, Howard and everything in between(if u care to know): D.C- * I'll have to un-learn how to properly drive because it seems no one knows how to drive *pedestrians dont stop at red lights i guess and walk slowly across on green *too too too much traffic everywhere *bold **** bums from D.C *houses that are conjoined and painted in extreme colors (whats that about?) *it'll take some adjusting Howard- *a tad bit unorganized especially when it came to financial aid time *beautiful people. honestly almost all the girls looked like models and a lot of attractive men also *loved the stores by howard. one i especially would love to shop at is up against the wall *a lil bit ghetto *i didnt talk to anybody which sucked. Overall- Im lookin forward to the experience, if anybody who reads this goes to Howard or will be going please respond with ur own views on the subject

I am just wondering if those assignments are final. I'm thinking with Howard, when you get there its gonna be a whole different story.... just guessing..

I think so too...especially since your roommates aren't assigned until move-in day. Why should my assignment be permanent?

So when y'all went to the Open House, yall didn't get to see any of the dorms either?...And you'd think the least HU could do was put ONE picture of the inside of the dorms on the website...I guess suspense is part of the "fun".....

So you're in Crandall Hall too. You're like the first that's told me that. Yea..definitely visit it and tell me wassup with it. I need to know if I need to change. I don't know about having two other roommates. Thats a lot of attitudes in one room.

Yeah I dont know if I am going to be able to deal with the attitudes either. But that is a part of the experience. I will have to live with a triple for this year because I have to go cheap.

I really love all of your "can-do" attitudes. I have to say that your suspicions of things changing is accurate. Sadly, what seems resolved is often times not. Bring lots of flexibility and bring your parents to fight like heck for you. Learn what you can about the dorms and pick one or two that would suit you. DO NOT change from anything to the Quad. The Quad is cool but... I have posted more on this in another Howard thread on this site. Several of my son's friends have just completed their Freshman year at HU. I have lived thru their and their parents saga on Freshman housing alone. I will not divulge the housing horrors that will come after your Freshman year... You will not be able to switch around once they sit you in a spot. There are barely enough rooms to house you Freshman. You need to be vigilant about this so that you have a real spot upon arrival. Go to the campus a few days early. Take a grown person or two with you. You will need them for all of the above AND you will have to have someone drive you around to get you stuff for your room. Parents can also help navigate roomies who are spoiled, selfish and in a funk cause they done got into it with their folks who have subsequentially told them to move in on their own Now, HU is an incredible place to be. You are all going to have a good time. If you can go to the pre-orientation you absolutely MUST go. Here is where the foundation is laid and relationships start. I know that many of the California moms went to advocate and regulate HU adm. for their children. You will see how this works and what I mean. Folks at HU will move you out the way to deal with a parent. They will also move a parent out the way to deal with a husband and wife...see how that works... I posted on another Howard thread that you should read the school newspaper that is student run. It is at www.thehilltop.com. Go back to Fall of '04 and read forward. Don't be scared, just be informed and ready to do some work outside the classroom too. Enjoy, you have been accepted by a truly wonderful place!
