Do you think Paris Hilton doesn't consider herself grown? Shes living off money set aside for her by her parents and grandparents. There are GROWN adults who still arent financially sound... 50-yr-olds living with their parents. If we had to wait til we were financially sound to be grown, we would have a world full of children.
****. Do you think Paris Hilton is grown? How can someone possibly be grown if all they do is party every night. No job, no responsibilities at all except for her dog "Tinkerbell" :???: . Just cause someone is a certain age doesn't mean their grown. And if you aren't fully independent or haven't gone thru things in life which have made you fully realize the responsibilities of a true adult. How can you actually be grown? Just cause I think I'm better than Michael Jordan still doesn't change the fact he could beat me 16-0. And to go back to Paris Hilton, she'll prolly never grow up. She has no reason to. She's 23 and acts younger than the average 9th grader.
That what Im sayin. Just because she has money doesn't mean she's grown. But Im sure she considers herself grown. How much money you have does not determine that. Obviously you only read bits and pieces. Grown is your mentality.
Yeah i thought you were trying to say she was. But nah, I don't read bits and pieces. Look up at what I bolded. Just because I think I'm something doesn't mean I am. I can think I can beat Mike Tyson's ****, I can think I can outrun Maurice Greene, I can think I can fly. But is any of that gonna happen? No. But do I believe it? Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that just because I think something it's not real. Just like if a person thinks they're grown and actually believe it, it doesn't mean they actually are.
I think we all perceive "being grown" differently... You all obviously think it means to be completely self-sustaining financially. While I see it as making your own choices, not being swayed by others, and knowing what you want to do in life... not having as much to do with your financial state, but more your mental state.
I agree with you 100%.

So by your standards I've been grown since I was 13... :???: Come on now.. We gotta look at reality.
lol...yea thats pretty much my sentiments...cause if thats the case I can have a 12 year old girl tell me that her friends come to her for advice, she doesnt give into peer pressure, and she knows she wants to go to college one day, become a doctor, and raise a family ( basically have goals )...and I know PLENTY of girls and boys like that but that doesnt make them grown. They are still children...soley based on age and inexperiences. I understant the point Brett is making, but dont completely agree with it, because those standards you have can apply to I think to everyone from ages 10 + up who were raised with some standards in their households...and I dont mean that in a condescending way...cause I was just like that as a child. I always had goals ( i knew in kindergarten I was going to go to college ), my friends always came to me for advice, i didnt give into peer pressure, alotta my friends looked to me as an example, so on and so forth, but that didnt make me grown. Everyones perceptions of " grown " is different and thats fine and dandy...But aside from being financially able to support yourself like Tip said, and everything else Brett said, I think LIFE EXPERIENCES determines whether a person is grown or not...Experiences mold you and grow you...hence you start to become " grown " because you can speak and act out of wisdom and being able to kinda be like " been there, done that, and i know where this will lead " or " i seen this happen to too many people so I know where the situation is headed " etc...Too many people think they are grown and they just getting they feet wet, and think they know it all and ready for the world and they really aint. Im not saying this applies to anyone specifically, but if the shoe fits where it...but that is my perception of being grown...and based off just my perception I dont believe i am quote/unqote " GROWN " yet...cause there is still alotta growing I need to do, along with living and learning....and cause I know someone will say this...YES, we never stop growing and learning, but at a certain point in a persons life there comes a time when we have grown and learned so much we can classify ourselves as grown cause cause we in seen and been thru it all in a sense. And if the life experiences apply to someone who is 18, then I think they are grown...but you dont see too many 18 year olds going thru serious life experiences, unless they came from a broken family and percsevered thru it all, etc...I think most people wont reach this point in their life til there mid - later 20s, but like I said every person is different. So for me personally...I consider myself a LEGAL ADULT, but I dont consider myself GROWN yet. Hopefully, all that made sense. But hey to each his or her own.

I feel you 100% Mila... This situation is one that only goes by that persons standards... In my house I was raised to know my place....where as in Brett house it was different At 13 I wasnt worried about being grown....I was trying to go outside and play. I think this is just a case of wanting all of this "GROWN" ****TOO soon. Like I said i'd rather be easy...go through some things before I classify myself was GROWN. I respect my momma..I've seen soooooooo many things and not to be mean to Brett cuz u kno we cool...but your world seems like ur living a fantasy to me...just by everything you say. But yeah this isnt going anywhere sooo

So b/c I am in love with someone, and can easily see myself starting a family with him in FIVE YEARS, Im livin in a fantasy.............. :???: Okay! I guess I do live in a fantasy... WHATEVA... I can definitely accept that.... But I am definitely doin my thang in life right now! Just because we have different views of life doesn't mean your way is right and mine is wrong. I can see where your coming from, yet you don't seem so open-minded. If we all chose to live life the same way, we would all have to be the same people. Some of my best friends already have a child, and they are STILL in college pullin 3.0's and higher, and thats much more than some childless students can say. Its not a fantasy; Its reality. Everyone will not be able to wait until they are 40 and financially secure to have kids and a family, and a GREAT percentage of Americans don't.

See that's the thing... Some kids don't have the luxury of playing outside or having friends. They often have to grow up fast and take on "adult" responsiblities because of family circumstances. I think kids and teens have way too much on their backs and it's not fair to them.

That's exactly how I feel shawty. Some young folk gotta accept some big **** responsibilities early on and I think that makes them grown. If somebody was really grown tho, I don't think they'd have to argue about it because it ain't like they got anything to prove to anybody. And plus, it's not like it's a privilege anyway it's a burden, I'm not even really looking forward to being grown...
