DILEMMA!! what should I pledge...Kappa or Alpha Posted on 07-21-2003
tuba/hoop_lilgleek04

yo wassup, dis is kerry aka lil' gleek. I have a dilemma, shawty. I'm going to attend college soon and everyone is hounding me already about what I should pledge. I'm between the kappas and the alphas. My mom's boss has been helping me out after my parents' divorce and he wants me to pledge kappa. BUT, at the same time, my dad wants me to "continue the legacy" and pledge alpha. Make it so bad, his line literally raised me when i was at my diaper ages. They call me lil' gleek since i'm the son of big gleek(my dad) What should I do?!!! :?

Here's the deal (what a lot of people won't tell you)... Though you will have a wonderful experience in college, that will only be for 2 or 3 years, you have the rest of your life for service to your community through your organization. You must research the organization(s) of your choice on the national, regional, state, and local level, and delve into the history of that organization. Ya know, who are the founders, what did they do in the community, how did they expand from their respective Alpha chapters, what did they contribute to the education of our people? As for me, I happen to pledge at a school where the frat I wanted to be in ran the yard hands down anyway, but if they didn't, I would still pledge that frat. Why? Because I am not a follower or a bandwagon jumper. I do me, and if that frat is tight, I'll make it tighter. If it's not tight, then my line will change things around. I've seen it done with the Zetas at my school. When I first pledged, there were like 3 Zetas, not doing many functions, stinking up the stage at the stepshow (which is not of importance by the way). Then one day, they had a line of about 8 or 9, and it was over, they almost run the yard right now, have mad functions, and win almost every step show (non-important thought). Yes, the campus you go to matters, but if that's the case, we wouldn't have BGLOs today, we'd just be running around pressed to be in the white organizations just because they were already established in 1906, 8, 11(x2), 13, 14, 20, 22, or 63. Our founders saw a need for change, and here we are today! Do what's in your heart, research, research, research, and most importantly, pray!
